Chapter 81: | 081 | Operation Daedalus Status Report

"From your tone, although not bothered, it must have been troublesome," Abraham remarked as he knew the tinge of difference within Charlotte\'s tone. She might not be bothered, but she obviously found it problematic.

*They were arrogant as expected, though their capability was higher than we had expected.* Charlotte responded to the Fleet Admiral. The arrogance of the Magus was as natural as the sun rising from the east, but their power was higher than previously thought.

\'Higher, huh? I guess I was correct about prioritizing not duking it out with those guys.\' Abraham quietly thought to himself before returning his attention to their conversation.

"Charlotte, how stronger are they? And if we fought against them, who would win?" He asked the most important question. Its answer mattered a lot to the United Navy.

Abraham trusted Charlotte\'s judgment and wit. She would understand when to fight her battles and not charge directly in it without much thought.

*Hmm… That is an interesting question, Fleet Admiral. Clearly, we would win against them. But perhaps a third of our fleet will be sunk. Even if we had Laplace\'s assistance.*

Charlotte\'s answer surprised Abraham. It seems that the capabilities of these guys weren\'t to be underestimated. A third of their fleet? That should be about two or more warships sunk. It would practically destroy a lot of the United Navy\'s naval power.

"How so, Charlotte? How do you think they could defeat our ships?" Abraham questioned as even he found it hard to believe. He wanted to know the Vice Admiral\'s detailed thoughts about the matter.

*Well, to say the least, their ships, although wooden, are pretty gigantic. Their battleships are pretty much similar to our world\'s Man-O-War, but a lot bigger. They are also pretty fast, only a bit slower than our warships.*

*They have hundreds upon hundreds of cannons each on their starboard and port. The power of such cannons is unknown, but with the existence of magicraft. Who knows what they were capable of.*

*Not only that, but they can pretty much teleport with a War Master commanding each battleship. I assume they will be a lot more skilled compared to the ones in the escort ships. That\'s also not speaking about the Magus on their capital battleship.*

*Although weak against our attacks, a group of them might be able to dish out some unknown spell. So all in all, we are mostly ignorant of their capabilities as they are to ours.*

*Fighting against one another doesn\'t bring much benefit. We\'ll lose our firepower in the fight, and what\'s to say those bigwigs won\'t send more? At the very least, they will consider us a threat this time and take their time to prepare.*

*We can also bid ours and prepare for the upcoming war.* Charlotte\'s explanation was somewhat long, but Abraham understood its intricacies.

What she meant to say was that they had little to no information against their enemies. Fighting against an unknown enemy was but a foolish endeavor of those looking for fame.

"That does make sense, Charlotte. I guess a war is inevitable." Abraham sighed as thinking a war was coming was completely different from your trusted adviser saying that a war was heading in their direction.

*This is the destiny of those who won\'t follow the system of those in authority. War was always inevitable for the United Navy. Our values are too different from theirs.* Charlotte replied from the other side.

Values, wealth, power, territory, culture, and history. There were many reasons why civilizations fought against one another. Not because of the whims of a single human.

If it was, no one would have fought in it.

But before Abraham could rabble in his thoughts, the smug voice of the problem dragon echoed from the communication array. Her words echoed throughout the bridge, and it made Abraham raise an eyebrow.

*Oh, Abraham. Did you know that they personally attacked Charlotte during the diplomatic talk? She almost died if it wasn\'t for me blocking it with my legendary arms!* Although the tone made it sound like they had gone through a party, the content within it was problematic.

"Attacked? You were assaulted, Charlotte?" Abraham furrowed his eyebrows as he never thought that those bastards would have the gal to attack one of his precious subordinates.

*After hearing their outrageous demands, I ended the diplomatic talk and promptly returned to the Combat Information Center. But on the way of doing so, a Magus teleported near me but was quickly blasted by our anti-material rifle.*

*The commander of the fleet ordered his War Master to cast a spell to attack me, but luckily Laplace blocked the lightning bolt.* Hearing Charlotte\'s explanation, nerves popped up on Abraham\'s forehead.

He thought he was hearing a joke, but he was not. Those f*ckers!

"Why didn\'t you tell me?" Abraham questioned since he couldn\'t believe his Vice Admiral hid such important news from him. What made it worse was her response.

*You didn\'t ask.* The aloof tone of the Vice Admiral made Abraham even more pissed off. The fact that she used such a spell against him was unwarranted. And besides, he didn\'t think that they would be that uncivilized.

"I guess you have a point." Abraham took a deep breath and understood he couldn\'t fault Charlotte for it. It was good that she didn\'t get hurt from the attack.

But that didn\'t mean that he was willing to let it go. They must pay for daring to attack their precious subordinate. Without her, managing the United Navy would be a lot harder.

He would practically become a slave behind a desk.

That must not happen.

"Thank you for reporting that to me, Laplace. I\'ll reward you once we go back." Abraham uttered to the communication array as Laplace\'s response swiftly followed.

*No problem, Abraham. Glad to help.* Laplace had a beaming smile while Charlotte looked at her with an accusing expression as though saying that the problem dragon was a snitch.

"We\'ll have to halt communication for now and return to the Port of Dawn. Take care." Abraham said and looked at the communication operator to turn off the transmission.

The communication operator did so and silence followed. Most naval personnel were busy with their respective duties, so the bridge was mostly silent during the entire time unless they found themselves in battle.

"We cannot be passive after this. Those guys have to pay, Systema." Abraham quietly mumbled to himself and received a chime of a mechanical bell inside his head.

*Ding!*

I have the same thoughts, Fleet Admiral. The Naval Gacha System and its System Apparatus are ready.

\'Alright… Give me a Naval Task, Systema." For the second time, Abraham asked for a Naval Task to the Naval Gacha System. Another mechanical bell rang inside his head and a monotone voice followed.

*Ding!*

Naval Task mission issued!

Prompting Mission Classification…

(Liberation) mission received!
