Chapter 168 - Happily Marrying Over
"May I ask everyone to leave first?" Lin Xiaofei\'s voice rang out of the entire hall. Her tone was gentle but there was inexplicably force that was used in it, making everyone think that someone with authority comparable to that of royalty was the one who commanded them.
"Hm? What\'s wrong?" Liu Shishi asked. She didn\'t understand why Lin Xiaofei wanted to make everyone leave.
"Nothing much. I just want to be alone for a moment." Replied Lin Xiaofei to Liu Shishi who no longer questioned her.
However, as someone who has been with Lin Xiaofei, Liu Shishi felt that her childhood friend had something in mind. She must be thinking of something mischievous to do before leaving.
With that thought inside her mind, Liu Shishi sighed in her heart and stood up as if it was natural for her to leave her childhood friend to do whatever she wanted.
When the maids who were cowering on the side saw Liu Shishi was walking towards the door, they also started to stand up. Their legs that turned numb from sitting for too long moved like it was some twigs rather than legs. But they didn\'t stand up because they were ordered.
Naturally, if someone else said these words, they would\'ve ignored it and wait for their masters to speak. However, as if there was a cold familiarity in Lin Xiaofei\'s voice that made their bodies move unconsciously, they couldn\'t stop themselves from walking out.
As soon as the maids left, there was a silence that seemed to be so impregnable that even Tan Feng noticed it and he frowned. The three guards looked at each other, they were unsure whether to move or not.
But one look at the young lady still sitting across them was enough for them to let go of the whips in their hands and rush outside as well as if their butts were on fire.
"Miss Lin, what do you plan to do?" Tan Feng asked, still not understanding her motive for coming here and punishing someone who lives in this residence.
Lin Xiaofei only gave him a side glance before smiling as she answered, "Attendant Tan, please don\'t look at me so suspiciously. I\'m merely going to clean myself from the tea I spilled on my dress..." She paused and moved her eyes to land on Concubine Shang\'s unmoving figure, "Ah, that\'s right. I would also like to speak with Lady Shang so would you please wake her up before you leave?"
Attendant Tan Feng continued to look at her and when he sensed that he couldn\'t read the young lady before him like he could\'ve when he stared at the concubines who lived in the Fourth Prince\'s residence to read their schemes.
He wanted to speak and reprimand her. Remind her that she was the guest here and not the master but the look she used to look at him made him feel so small before her.
He closed his mouth then open it. The harsh words that were ready to be spilled out of his mouth couldn\'t come out anymore.
And before he knew it, he saw his limbs moving to wake up Concubine Shang and after doing that, he was already on his way to get out of the receiving hall.
"Ughh…" Lin Xiaofei heard the groans of Concubine Shang who was awakened by Attendant Tan.
Attendant Tan was already out of the picture and there was only her and Concubine Shang along with the two unconscious maids on the side.
Slowly, Lin Xiaofei patted her skirt as if there was a crumb of cake that fell on it before she raised her head and started to move.
She stepped towards Concubine Shang who was still not fully awakened as she held her head as if not understanding what had just happened.
"Lady Shang, are you alright?" Lin Xiaofei softly asked and leaned forward as if she was about to help her stand up.
But instead of helping the concubine to stand up, Lin Xiaofei only stared down at her.
"Y-you!" Concubine Shang finally remembered everything pointed a finger at Lin Xiaofei. "You slut! How dare you do this to me! I\'ll make sure you won\'t get married happily!" She shouted hoarsely but the reply that she only got from Lin Xiaofei was a peal of genuine laughter.
Concubine Shang stared in surprise at her. She didn\'t know what was so funny when she was sincere with her threats. She might be just a concubine for now but her family had a significant amount of authority and they were involved in countless nobles that could bring down the great Lin family. Besides that, her dream to become the princess consort was a step away from her so no one should act this way towards her!
"Can\'t you hear me?! You might be idiotically brave! Do you think the Lin family and the Duke could protect you? Think again! There\'s no one who can protect you from me!" Concubine Shang viciously said. Her voice promised any kind of torture that she would put Lin Xiaofei into once she got her hands on her.
"What makes you think that I need the Lin family and the Duke\'s protection?" Lin Xiaofei leaned so close to her and smiled. She suddenly lowered her voice and said, "Shang Xue, you still haven\'t changed one bit. You\'re still the same ambitious woman who can\'t even touch my shoes. What makes you think Yu Fangzhu would pick you as his consort and not the lady from the Chu empire?"
"W-what do you mean by that?" Concubine stuttered as she felt a sense of familiarity with the way Lin Xiaofei spoke to her. However, she couldn\'t point out what it was and where she found this sense of familiarity.
Lin Xiaofei already expected that even after saying this much, Shang Xue would still be so blinded that she wouldn\'t believe that Xiaofei was back. Who would believe it anyway? Concubine Shang might have already noticed Lin Xiaofei\'s words but she was too caught up with the issue of not becoming the princess consort and all her attention went to that.
And so, she continued to speak without filtering her words, "With what happened to Tianli cave, do you really think he would marry a concubine and not the Chu princess who could make him more powerful? If I were you I wouldn\'t be so caught up with my feelings and start planning for myself."
Concubine Shang stared at her silently. The horror of realizing that she was about to lose her position in Yu Fangzhu\'s heart and mind was tremendous.
Lin Xiaofei\'s purpose in saying this was of course not to help Concubine Shang. The more the sea was troubled the more the sailors can\'t sail their boats and get their fishes to feed themselves.
With the thorn of doubt that she planted inside Concubine Shang, who was to know what kind of things will happen to the future of the Fourth Prince and his residence.
Seeing that the concubine\'s eyes were now clouded with uncertainties and doubts, Lin Xiaofei was quite satisfied with herself and finally stood up to leave.
But before she could step away from Concubine Shang, she said as if she forgot something, "Ah! That\'s right. I\'ll make sure to send you an invitation to my wedding. I wouldn\'t want you to miss out on witnessing me happily marrying over to the Duke."
