Chapter 255 Refusal
Sauros was relaxing in the bath of his cabin when he suddenly heard a large crack. It seemed like a huge plank of wood had been broken… he went to check things after a while and saw that the door of Aion\'s cabin had been broken.
"... What happened here?" Sauros asked.
"Your sister happened," Aion replied, While he was reading a book on his bed.
After a long sigh, Sauros made everyone that had come to check things to return to their posts, and then he asked Aion what had happened. In the middle of the story, Sauros is already facepalming.
"After I told her that I wouldn\'t let my kids become part of your tradition or business, she tried to explain to herself how things weren\'t like that," Aion said. "I got tired along the way and then said that while she was pretty and had a nice body, her personality was a huge demerit. I also said that I wasn\'t interested in anyone who could only see me as a tool and that there must be plenty of desperate men out there who wouldn\'t mind becoming her playthings. She left the room, and she closed the door like that."
"How awkward can someone be… I said many things as a joke, but it seemed that she began to think seriously about it in her own weird way," Sauros said and then sighed.
"I don\'t want to hear you guys\' explanations about your modus operandi when it comes to making kids so that you can leave now," Aion said.
"At least let me try to clear the image of my little sister," Sauros said. "From a very young age, we are educated to believe that the mission of our tribe is everything and that we don\'t have many options when it comes to that. While we have enough numbers not to create problems when it comes to marriage in our tribe, that rarely happens since everyone only focuses on the mission."
"That must be almost the same as brainwashing," Aion said. "It isn\'t as extreme as that, but most of us grow to believe that we can\'t afford to make mistakes. That is why we are known for that tradition of disappearing once the kids are born. Mainly because they need to be raised in our territory, and no one can know where it is."
"They are raised there to be brainwashed as well," Aion said.
"I told you, it isn\'t like brainwashing…." Sauros said and then sighed. "People like me exist, after all, and I am practically the leader of my tribe."
"Again, I don\'t have any reason to hear all that," Aion said.
"Until now, Seris worked hard for the family and put everything aside in order to help me on the mission. That is why she can be like that," Sauros said. "She can\'t see love as something that can become a massive part of her life and only a part that will help the tribe to keep the mission. Still, she is aware that she can\'t just find a random someone for that. In her own way, she put a lot of thought into this and concluded that of all the people she knew, you would be the most adequate candidate to be the father of her child."
"That doesn\'t change the fact that she only saw me as a tool, and that also didn\'t change the fact that a kid born in that situation would become a tool for your mission as well," Aion said.
"That is the perspective of someone who doesn\'t live and doesn\'t know a lot about things like we do, but it is understandable," Sauros said. "Anyway, your choice will be respected, but try to see things from her perspective a bit when you interact with her in the future."
"Our interactions will be limited now that the mission is almost over," Aion shrugged. "That will barely be a concern."
"I see… well, I am going to talk with her," Sauros said. "She probably doesn\'t get how much you hate the idea of someone becoming a tool for someone else\'s schemes, considering how your mother lived after being taken as a prisoner."
At least Sauros could get it. He could understand how Aion hated that kind of situation since he had seen his mother living something similar for years. Her situation was complicated, but even so, it could have become worse… a kid born between Sauros tribe and Aion\'s bloodline probably would have a difficult life, and people probably would try to manipulate them.
"I will apologize to her later about saying that she can find random guys for that, but you should say that to her as well," Aion said. "Still, most of what I said still stands."
"All right, I will pass the message," Sauros said, and then he left.
Aion could understand a little more correctly why Seris didn\'t react much after seeing him naked. It wasn\'t because she was a loose woman but because she didn\'t know how to feel about it.
In any case, Aion sighed since something troublesome happened at such a weird time… thanks to it, the thought of him having a family of his own began to bother him. Unfortunately, Aion didn\'t have anyone in mind. Being a workaholic and adrenaline junkie who is always training has its demerits.
The world also puts him in a difficult situation… he had forty years\' worth of experience, but he was fifteen. Thinking of someone from a modern world, marrying someone below thirty would be weird. Still, in that world, kids around his age don\'t marry women ten years older than them… it was a really uncomfortable situation.
"Mother wants to see a grandchild soon, but things aren\'t that simple…" Aion thought and then sighed. "Adopting one and then letting her raise it won\'t do it either. It will only look weird… I guess I will consider that seriously once the next mission is over."
No matter the situation, Aion knew that he would end up troubled, so he might as well ignore whatever happens and focus on the path with the least amount of problems…
