Chapter 180 - Don't Worry, They Won't Know
Silvercove City, Central District.
Over at the location of the police department, where the new department building was still in the making, hundreds of police officers have gathered from around the entire city after receiving an emergency summon.
Chief Waiyu stood tall on an elevated platform and overlooked the officers gathering in front of him before checking the time.
Seeing the time was up, Chief Waiyu no longer waited and began speaking, "As you know, several fierce battles around the city have been blown out of proportions and alarmed even the world government."
"As such, we have been tasked by the mayor to head over there and control the situation. We have to prevent the battles from spreading and minimize the civilian casualties caught within."
"Don\'t tell me that we have to fight with those high-level hunters? Isn\'t that like…suicide?!" Officer Wan asked with shock.
"As I said, we are there to control the situation, not to quell the chaos," Chief Waiyu explained before adding, "The world government\'s peace-keeping forces have already been deployed and on their way. We are only to control the situation under they arrive."
"I see… That\'s a right," Wan Tu sighed with relief.
"Alright, no more questions. We are wasting time," Chief Waiyu stated despite seeing a few raised hands.
"We will divide into two groups. The first group will head to Silvercove Beach and secure the perimeters near the Eastern Allure Auction House under Captain Guo\'s lead. The other group will follow my lead and head over to the Abestel family\'s estate."
"This will be the most dangerous operation in the history of our city\'s police force. As such, if you want to back out, now is the time to do it. No one will blame you for being a coward."
After Chief Waiyu spoke, the few officers that wanted to back out of the operation changed their minds and no longer backed out.
No one wanted to be seen as cowards.
Chief Waiyu waited for a brief moment and saw no one leaving before he nodded and proceeded to divide them into two groups.
"Alright." Chief Waiyu uttered shortly after it was done before saying, "Since the group has been settled, get into your vehicles! We\'re moving out!"
"Yes, Chief!"
The police officers quickly followed their superiors\' instructions and head over to their designated vehicles.
At the same time, Senior Luo searched the big crowd of officers moving about before Officer Sara pulled his arm to get a move on.
"Stop looking, Senior Luo. Officer Xiao is not here. She hasn\'t been performing duties in the past two days and ignored all your calls. Chances are, she will be quitting the force soon," she said.
"Haiz…" Senior Luo sighed despondently before shaking his head, "Even if that is the case, she still has our car, does she not?"
"This…" Officer Sara was stunned.
She thought that Senior Officer Luo was simply looking for Officer Xiao because he missed her, but as it turns out, it was because she took off with their shared vehicle.
"If we don\'t have our cruiser, then does that mean that we will have to…?"
"Un," Senior nodded and urged, "Quickly ask around to see if we can hop in another team\'s cruiser for a ride."
"Right…"
…
Meanwhile, the culprit was driving the cruiser at that exact moment with two kids in the backseats, heading northeast to Silvercove Beach.
"This is unbelievable! How can you two hide something so important from me? Don\'t you know that something bad could happen to Sally and Wuxin if we delay their rescue?!" Estelle Xiao reprimanded the two boys.
"Seriously, what\'s the point of you two tagging along? Don\'t you know how dangerous the Metti gang is?! I don\'t even know what I was thinking for agreeing to bring you two along," she grumpily added while stepping on the gas.
"Big sister, it\'s because we know how dangerous they are plus how reckless you are that we have to tag along and stop you from doing something stupid!" Armin stated.
"Yeah! The fact that you agreed to bring us along is evidence that you cannot make correct choices when it matters!" Chang Shuren added.
Screech!
The police car came to a grinding halt on the side of the road before Estelle Xiao turned her head around and glared at them!
"Two ungrateful little bastards! I finally agreed to bring you two along after your incessant protests, yet you dare spite me?! Do you want to get out and walk back home?!" Estelle Xiao threatened them.
The two boys immediately shrank their necks.
"Big sister, we were wrong!" Chang Shuren pleaded guilty in apology.
"Yeah, we are sorry! Please don\'t make us walk!" Armin added.
God knows how long it will take them to walk back to the orphanage from their current location, not to mention if they even know the way back!
"Hmph, that\'s what I thought! You two better buckle up and behave yourself—or else, you know what!" Estelle Xiao snorted with intimidation.
"Yes, big sister! We promise to behave!"
"Yes, big sister! We promise to behave!"
The two little boys sat up straight obediently and no longer dared to throw careless remarks and jabs at their Big Sister Estelle.
"Hmph, you better be!" Estelle Xiao grinned while snickering in her heart.
The \'do you want to walk?\' threat seems to be working well like always. It was the privilege of being the driver when they are annoyed.
Nevertheless, Estelle Xiao\'s expression reverted to a serious look as she stepped on the gas and resumed their trip.
"How long has it been since Wuxin and Sally were taken away? I hope we are not too late to save them."
…
Luxury Crown Hotel, 7:50 PM
At that moment, the targets of Estelle Xiao\'s worries were sitting on the rooftop of the 60-floor building while eating more meat skewers with Albion and the two wolf-girls, who were seen wolfing down the meat skewers as if they were the best thing ever.
"Boss, was it alright for us to take so many meat skewers without permission?" Wuxin asked while gazing at the several bags full.
"Don\'t worry, the owners won\'t know that we took them since they all abandoned their stores to escape the chaos," Albion casually answered.
"…"
The little girl opened her mouth but did not know how to respond.
That was not what she was asking about…
