Chapter 24,Part 3: — Reason for the Incident

Seeing the girl’s uneasiness, Lin Cheng stopped questioning her.

Lin Cheng turned off their recording equipment.

“What Chen Yu and the others gave you to cover things up, don’t use them anymore,” Lin Cheng told Lin Momo.

He could easily make the deduction—Chen Yu and the others must have come up with this stupid way of letting the child use a concealer to cover her scars.

“Where do you have other injuries?” Lin Cheng asked again.

Lin Momo shook her head.

Seeing this, Lin Cheng had no choice but to pass the ointment to Lin Momo, “If there are still bruises, apply the ointment yourself. If you can’t apply it…” after a pause, Lin Cheng continued, “I can Invite the landlady to come help.”

“I can apply myself.” Lin Momo took the ointment and ran back to the room.

Fortunately, this time their house has one bedroom and one living room. Lin Momo was using the inner bedroom, and Lin Cheng used the outer living room, so there was no need to deliberately hide.

… …

Lin Momo applied the medicine then walked out of the bedroom. The first thing she saw on the table was a big, bulging dough inside the basin.

Lin Momo’s eyes lit up, and she asked Lin Cheng, “Is that dough ready?”

Both the dough and dry goods were ready.

Seeing Lin Cheng nodding, Lin Momo felt excited. “Can we start making buns?”

Lin Cheng studied Lin Momo’s excited face for two seconds before nodding, “Yes.”

“Then let’s start!”

Ready to get busy with their livelihood matters, Lin Momo quickly put the previous things out of her mind.

Lin Cheng took out the purchased vegetables and prepared to deal with them.

Lin Momo wanted to help. Lin Cheng originally wanted to refuse, but seeing the excited look on the girl’s face, he found some items that were easier to wash and asked Lin Momo to deal with them, while he cleaned the rest and chopped up the ingredients.

In front of the computer, looking at the scene of Lin Cheng cutting vegetables, Wang Xi showed an admiring expression on her face.

“I didn’t expect that this reality show would turn Brother Cheng into a good man at home!” Wang Xi said with emotion. A man who works hard was really handsome.

Chen Yu nodded in agreement. Although it was unexpected, Lin Cheng’s changes in the show were indeed visible to the naked eye.

Chen Yu has already started thinking about which kinds of endorsement Lin Cheng should pursue.

In the other team, the actor Gao Yuankai has a lot of fans because he was proficient in laundry, cooking, and doing handyman things like replacing light bulbs.

Chen Yu thought, it must be wishful thinking for smaller companies to be endorsed by a big name like Bai Yulin. An endorsement by a celebrity of Lin Cheng’s current status and popularity should be fine.

“However, having said that, what happened at the vegetable market earlier, is it really all right?” Zhou Qi said with some concern.

The audience could just take the earlier event as an accident with a drunk person and not take it too seriously, but they knew Lin Momo’s real life situation, so they naturally thought that what happened was not that simple.

“Better look into it,” Chen Yu sighed and said in a deep voice.

He had a bad premonition in his heart: for some reason, he felt that Lin Cheng would have something to say about this matter.

… …

Over on the other side, Lin Momo carried a pot full of vegetables to the small yard downstairs and sat herself down next to the faucet.

Lin Momo washed each item carefully: every vegetable leaf was scrubbed clean inside and out.

Seeing this scene, several comments floated across the barrage screen in the livestream channel:

[The baby is washing this so clean, I wanna buy this bun! ]

[Boss Lin, bring me a steamer of buns! ]

[Boss Lin’s steamed stuffed buns are ugly, but they are clean and hygienic, this is true. ]

[I’ll come get two steamers too! ]

[I’ll have three steamers.]

[Four streamers. ]

… …

By the time Lin Momo finished washing the dishes and brought them back upstairs, Lin Cheng had already processed the other ingredients.

“Dad, these vegetables are ready,” Lin Momo said to Lin Cheng.

“Okay.”

“What else do I need?”

“Nothing.”

Lin Momo: “…”

“I can help you,” Lin Momo said, unwilling to be put off. “I can make buns.”

Lin Cheng looked up at Lin Momo, “Then go over there and wait.”

The subtext seemed to say that Lin Momo would only get in the way here.

“Oh.” Lin Momo responded and obediently backed away from the chopping board.

However, in the next second, Lin Momo came back again, bringing a small bench with her. She sat in front of the chopping board and staring at Lin Cheng doing the work, just quietly sitting there, her chin resting on her hands.

The task this evening was much more complicated than the one in the afternoon. They needed to prepare bun fillings of various flavors.

Before buying ingredients, the two checked the recipe online.

Lin Cheng now began filling the buns one by one according to the recipe.

The process was not quick. Lin Momo was sitting by the side, and at some point, she had already dozed off, her head drooping little by little.

After Lin Cheng prepared the eight kinds of fillings, her looked up and saw that Lin Momo had already fallen asleep sitting on the bench, with her head tilted to one side, her mouth half-opened. Her appearance looked a little funny, but it also made people feel a little distressed.

Lin Cheng didn’t wake her up.

Walking over and looking at the sleeping girl, Lin Cheng wanted to get her into the bedroom to sleep, but he didn’t know how to do it. In the end, she had no choice but to carry Lin Momo to the sofa to sleep.

… …

Lin Cheng quickly wrapped the remaining buns by himself.

After finishing more than a dozen bamboo steamers of steamed buns, it was already late at night.

Lin Cheng didn’t go to sleep. Instead, he went out into the night.

What he did outside was not captured by the livestream camera.

Footnotes

A ‘steamer’ is the bamboo container where you cook—and serve— steamed buns. They are slotted at the bottom so the steam would come up and cook (or keep warm) the buns. Can be smaller than plates or bigger than pizzas. They stack (the picture are 2 steamers stacked), one on top of another, and come with a lid to keep the steam in.
