Chapter 25,Part 2: — Selling Steamed Buns - Lin Bun Shop Now Open!

Lin Momo really didn’t steal anything from him. It was just that Zhou Dazhi lost money at the gambling tables the week before and met debt collectors who came to the shop to ‘loot’ his store. He had been in a bad mood. At that time, the child ran to the door of his store to pick up beer cans and Zhou Dazhi picked on her to vent his anger.

“She didn’t steal anything?”

“Yes, yes, nothing! it’s all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding!”

“You took her money?” Lin Cheng asked again.

“I’ll pay, I’ll pay it back right away!” Zhou Dazhi folded his arms and moved to the cash drawer, grabbed a large amount of money from it and handed it to Lin Cheng, “I will pay you all this, I was wrong, please forgive me.”

After receiving the wad of cash, Lin Cheng didn’t take all of it but only counted out 11 yuan from it and put the rest of the money back on the table.

“The money matter is settled,” Lin Cheng said.

Hearing Lin Cheng’s words, Zhou Dazhi breathed a sigh of relief but in the next second Lin Cheng said, “Let’s settle another matter next.”

“Wang Yu,” Lin Cheng called out.

“Yes?”

“Go outside and close the door,” Lin Cheng ordered.

“Okay,” Wang Yu gave Zhou Dazhi a look of pity. He left the shop and closed the door behind him.

Standing outside, Wang Yu didn’t know what happened inside, but he could hear the screams like someone was slaughtering a pig inside.

Inside the shop, Zhou Dazhi was beaten all over, wanting to resist, but unfortunately his brute strength was like a rookie in front of Lin Cheng’s well-trained skills.

“You, you, you are hurting people with malicious intent! Don’t push me into doing anything rash. If you push me to call the police, none of us will end up well!” Maybe it was because he was beaten so badly that Zhou Dazhi directly pulled out calling the police to threaten Lin Cheng.

.

Hearing this, Lin Cheng sneered, “You want to call the police?”

“You—! I said don’t force me!”

“Didn’t you say to report it? Then I’ll help you.” Lin Cheng called Wang Yu in from outside. “Have you contacted the police?”

“The police have already been dispatched, and they should be here soon,” Wang Yu replied, throwing Zhou Dazhi—who had pissed out of fear—a look full of contempt.

Shortly after Wang Yu finished speaking, three policemen rushed to the scene.

Seeing the police appear, Zhou Dazhi seemed to have seen a life-saving rope. He rushed forward, pointed at Lin Cheng and began to complain, “Comrade police, he hit me! I will sue him for intentional injury!”

The leading policeman looked at Lin Cheng and then at Zhou Dazhi, who was covered in fleshy fat, he showed contempt, “You are like this, how dare you say that others beat you?”

The police didn’t believe Zhou Dazhi’s words at all: this Zhou Dazhi himself was not a law-abiding person. He often ended up being brought to the police station for mediation for conflicts with the other people.

“He did! He really hit me!”

Hearing this, the policeman sneered, “Then tell me, did he hit you there?”

“This….”

Lin Cheng’s way of beating people was too ‘ruthless’. He had picked places where injuries couldn’t be seen. Zhou Dashi was in such pain that he cried for his father and mother but on the surface it seemed that nothing happened.

Zhou Dazhi felt the helplessness of the ‘vulnerable group’ for the first time, just like Lin Momo before. At this moment, he felt like crying, but only regretted not installing a video monitor in the store.

“I— I want an injury examination!” Zhou Dazhi shouted.

But the police thought he was messing around and stopped talking nonsense to him.

“Quiet.” With a firm voice, the leading policeman said again, “Zhou Dazhi, we have received reports from concerned persons that you are selling fake cigarettes and alcohol in your shop.”

Hearing what the policeman said, Zhou Dazhi’s expression suddenly changed suddenly, and he

Immediately denied the charge, “Comrade policeman, I am wronged! I only sell genuine items. How can I sell fake cigarettes and alcohol?”

The policeman handed something to Zhou Dazhi, “This is the warrant, you read it clearly.”

“No, no, don’t search!” Zhou Dazhi wanted to stop the policemen’s actions, but he was restrained by one of the policemen.

Two other policemen began to search the store.

… …

The shop was not big. Soon enough, the police found the license, purchase order, and an inventory of the cigarettes and alcohol in Zhou Dazhi’s store, which were quite obviously more than the quantity recorded on the purchase documents.

And on the second floor of the store, the police found heat-sealing materials, a large number of counterfeit cigarettes and alcohol, and several bundles of counterfeit banknotes with small denominations.

Seeing what the police found, Zhou Dazhi knew he was finished, and his overweight body collapsed to the ground.

“What are these?” the policeman asked Zhou Dazhi, pointing to the incriminating things.

“I- I don’t know… I’m just a small businessman, and these are the goods I bought with serious money. I was also deceived by others. I didn’t know that these are fake,” Zhou Dazhi lied.

He sold fake wine to those who can’t tell the difference. He usually mixed fake cigarettes in with real ones and sold them together. When you sold them mixed in like that, most people would not pay much attention to one or two that were not quite right.

The police didn’t listen to Zhou Dazhi’s lies at all and pointed to the bundle of money. “Then how are you going to explain this?”

Looking at the bundle of counterfeit banknotes, Zhou Dazhi had no choice but to try and explain, “This— these were all given to me by my friend, and they are not in large denominations. So it should be fine.”

Zhou Dazhi trusted a certain ‘friend’ to get these for him, and he didn’t dare to use them casually at ordinary times, but when old people or children bought things with cash, he mixed them with real money and gave it to them as change.

“Deliberately using counterfeit money, the nature is the same, and the combined face value of your bills is quite large.”

“But…”

“Okay, we already found the counterfeit goods, so don’t make any more excuses,” the policeman interrupted Zhou Dazhi. “You come with us.”

Zhou Dazhi was taken away, and his shop was also seized along with all the counterfeit goods.

Even after he entered the police station, Zhou Dazhi couldn’t understand. He hid matters so well: how did Lin Cheng know his ‘backroom dealings’?

Footnotes

It was mentioned earlier that Zhou Dashi’s joint was dislocated. Maybe the author forgot Lin Cheng put back.
