Chapter 138 - Reconciliation

"If you are ok like you said then why are you suddenly acting out of character? I can\'t recall when you have last asked about my welfare not to mention abandoning your work just because you are worried about me. You are acting like a total stranger and this scares me," Jasmine voiced out her thoughts. Her sister who has always been mean to her since she can recall suddenly acts caring towards her, nobody in her shoes will not be surprised and suspicious at the same time.

"I heard that people who change suddenly are those who are on their deathbed, you are not suffering from any terminal disease are you?" Jasmine asked suspiciously.

"Jasmine, stop giving me that look because I am fine," Elizabeth replied. She could not blame Jasmine for overreacting. If she had treated her little sister with a bit of affection in the past she was certain that today\'s incident wouldn\'t have come as a surprise to her.

"If you are not terminally ill, then what is responsible for the change in attitude towards me?" Jasmine asked, her expression turning serious.

"Alfred raised hand and words when I accused him of having an illicit relationship with you brought me back to my senses. It opened my eyes to the truths that I couldn\'t see because I was blinded by my jealousy. It made me realise how bad of a big sister I was," Elizabeth said in a calm tone.

"Alfred slapped you?" Jasmine remarked in surprise. The way she acted was as if it was only the slap part of Elizabeth\'s sentence she heard.

"I know it was wrong of you to accuse him of having sex with me but a gentleman would never raise his hand at a woman no matter what so he had no right to slap you...,"

"I never said he slapped me. On different occasions, I have accused him of different kinds of things but this particular accusation provoked him beyond words. He was so furious that he raised his hand for the first time to slap me but he stopped at the last minute," Elizabeth narrated in a meek tone.

"I can understand him perfectly. If the man I love accuses me of having an illicit relationship with his brother I am certain I would have reacted more than Alfred did. His anger was justified and I know you might think I sided with him because he is my friend but that is not true. I would have beaten him up just like I had earlier warned him if he had slapped you," Jasmine said firmly. Silence erupted in the room after Jasmine talked. It was at this moment that the waitress brought their orders. After the waitress finished displaying their orders, the two siblings continue talking.

"Lizzy, I didn\'t quite understand your sudden change in behaviour towards me so can you expatriate on it?" Jasmine said as she sipped from her cup of coffee. Elizabeth began narrating the incident that occurred between Alfred and her. At the end of her narration, Jasmine just smiled.

So after so many years, she has finally understood my feelings for her. Apart from being my sister, she was my first teacher and best friend so how could I bear to hate her? I did not mind sacrificing my grades and relationship with my parents just for her.

Jasmine thought with mixed feelings.

Although I haven\'t been that great of a sister, I really tried my best to make sure she became the ideal first daughter that father has always wanted her to be. I don\'t regret becoming the villain in my father\'s eyes. At least because of the title of a villain, I got to live my life the way I wanted to, unlike my elder sister who has done nothing but abides by whatever father wants since childhood.

Jasmine thought as she stares at her sister whose brown hair was tied into a ponytail. She could not help but think that the long silver hearing she was wearing suits her perfectly.

"Jasmine, I am sorry for all these years that I treated you badly. I am sorry for misunderstanding you when all you have ever wanted was to protect me. And thank you for protecting me in the dark for so long. Thanks for setting a good example that I, your elder sister should follow," Elizabeth said sincerely. Her expression showed that she meant every word she said.

"Yeah, you have been a very bad elder sister. You don\'t cease to nag me each time we meet. There are times you are very mean but all these things don\'t make you the worst sister. Apart from all those minor misunderstandings, there has been no time we had major clashes. I would be a liar if I say that your actions and words didn\'t hurt me sometimes but I am ok," Jasmine said as she smiled at her.

Before jealousy came in between them, the two of them were best friends. The incident where Elizabeth locked her in the storage house drifted their once-perfect relationship apart.

"Jasmine, what good deed did I do in my past life to deserve a rare gem like you for a sister...,"

"Maybe you had sacrifice your life just to save me and I promised to repay you in our next lives. I guess this is the reason I haven\'t been able to hate you despite all my efforts," Jasmine said playfully. Elizabeth could not resist smiling when she heard Jasmine\'s hilarious conclusion.

"You haven\'t changed one bit. You are still as naughty as ever...,"

"Didn\'t you know that is my charms? Everyone falls in love with me because of that," Jasmine said smiling. The mere thought that she and her sister were no longer on hostile terms made her very happy.

"You are so silly," Elizabeth said smiling. She could not recall the last she smiled so genuinely at her sister. Elizabeth waited for the laughter to die down before she began talking again.
