Chapter 356 - I Am Fine
Jasmine thought, her once gloomy expression brightened in an instance.
"Ohh...," Jackson remarked resisting the urge to laugh. He quickly bent and brought out the white shopping bag lying underneath the table.
"Mum, these are the gifts Jasmine and I got for you. It was picked after so much consideration. It contains not only our sincerity but our love," Jackson said as he extended the shopping back towards his mother\'s direction.
Jasmine bite her lower lips to suppress her anxiety when she saw the reluctance on the elderly woman\'s face.
My son got the gift for me so I will accept it. Accepting the gift doesn\'t mean that I have consented to this anyways.
Mrs Smith thought as her eyes darted from her son wearing a black suit to the lady staring at her with glittering eyes.
"It\'s has been so long you gave me gifts so I will accept it with a grateful heart," Mrs Smith said as she collected the gift to the relief of the once anxious lady.
"Mum, stop trying to make me look bad because you know that is not true. I gave you gifts on your birthday, didn\'t I...,"
"Is it only on my birthdays you are supposed to give me gifts? You are so unfilial," Mrs Smith said pretending to be cool with everything.
"If Ice... I mean if Jackson won\'t send you gifts except on your birthdays then you can count on me to spoil you with gifts at least once a week," Jasmine said beaming. The once chatty Mrs Smith kept quiet after Jasmine spoke.
"Mum, you have got yourself someone who will spoil you rotten I am sure you must be thrilled right," Jackson asked in a playful tone. Mrs Smith didn\'t reply and thank goodness the waiter came just in time to ask for Mrs Smith\'s orders.
They purposely refrained from placing orders for her when they arrived for fear that she might pick offence with the meals they ordered. The waiter came back a few minutes later with her orders.
While eating Jackson tried as hard as possible to make sure that there was no total silence on the table. Because of the tense atmosphere, Jasmine could not eat like she normally would have eaten if it was only she and Jackson.
After the suffocating meal, Jasmine and Jackson escorted the woman so eager to leave out of the restaurant. They watched her car leave the restaurant premises.
The couple entered their red spot car afterwards. Jackson turned to stare at Jasmine after they had both strapped their seatbelts.
"You only ate a few bites in there, are alright? You can tell me if you are feeling sick. I will either take you to the hospital or have my doctor come check...,"
"I am fine. I couldn\'t bring myself to eat properly with your mum around but nothing is wrong with me," Jasmine said honestly.
"If mum\'s presence bothers you...,"
"Her presence doesn\'t bother me so don\'t worry. Don\'t make a big deal out of everything I say, because like I said I am fine," Jasmine said as she stroked his hand holding onto her hand.
"When I accepted to get into a relationship with you I knew that they were gonna be a lot of challenges and obstacles. I accepted to date you because I wanted to face every challenge of life with you so don\'t worry too much because I am not so weak," Jasmine said as she forced on a smile.
Indeed she is hurt that no matter what she does Jackson\'s mum is still hell-bent on hating her for no reason. If she had disrespected her in the past, she would have understood why she treats her this way. But the truth is never had she crossed paths with his mum in the past.
As long as she could recall she always respect her elders as long as they don\'t disrespect her in any way. She has never clashed with the woman but this woman chooses to hate her for no particular reason.
"About what mum did...,"
"Drop me by at Catherine\'s place. I need to show her my new hairstyle or she will be so damn shocked when she saw me with a new look on Monday," Jasmine deliberately prevented him from saying what he had in mind.
"Ok, I will do that," Jackson said before he ignited the car. Jackson drove to Catherine\'s apartment which was a twenty minutes ride.
Back in Mrs Smith car the elderly woman who was previously pretending dialled a person\'s line and waited for a response from the other end. She did not need to wait for long before a lady\'s sweet voice came on.
"Auntie, how are you? After the incident at the party, I have been planning to visit you...,"
"Save your visiting for another time because that is not the reason I called you," Mrs Smith cut the sweet voice shut.
"Auntie, why do you sound so furious? Did I perhaps do anything wrong?" Jane asked feeling scared that she might have lost the favour of the greatest supporter of her and Jackson\'s union.
"You haven\'t done anything right so why are you surprised to see me angry? If you had wanted to see a beautiful smile on my face then you would have done everything to drive that lady away from my son\'s side but what did you do instead?" Mrs Smith asked with furrowed eyebrows. Wrinkles that were never on her pretty face became visible because of how angry she was.
"Jane, right now I can see that you enjoy seeing my darling son with that annoying Avans daughter. If my guess is indeed true then let me know so I can choose a capable lady fit enough for my son to do me the favour of driving that eyesore away...,"
"Auntie what are you talking about. Of course, I still love Jack very much," The anxious Jane said subconsciously standing up from the couch she previously sits on.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi darling readers, I wasn\'t supposed to upload another chapter today but I just recalled that I forgot to do the most important thing before the year ends.
2021 came with a lot of surprises be it good or bad. They were times I got so tired of everything including writing. The way my books were doing poorly despite all the time, effort and resources I invested in it made me lack motivation to do anything. This constant failure as an author almost made me give up on writing. The reason I wrote "MISSION XX: SEDUCING THE GREAT SEDUCER", was because my friend constantly kept encouraging me to do it despite how scared I was.
Although all these things happened I still think 2021 has been my best year as an author.
2021 brought me a lot of wonderful readers through this book and other of my books. I got to meet and befriend wonderful readers just like you. You guys might not understand how much this means to me but it\'s ok since I do.
Overall, 2021 was awesome and this was all because of my superb readers who showered me with their endless love and supports. The feeling that my readers will always get my back no matter what this 2021 made me so happy. It made me feel like I could fly and soar so high.
I wish 2022 will be more awesome than this. I wish all my efforts after all these years of being an author will pay off. I wish my readers will support and shower me with their love in 2022 more than they did this year 2021.
I also wish for all my readers to remain happy and healthy comes 2022.
Thank you so much, everyone, you have been more than amazing this 2021. I wish they are other ways I could show you all how grateful I am apart from writing it down.
A BIG SHOUTOUT TO ALL MY READERS!!! I LOVE YOU ❤❤❤
