Chapter 238 - Abandoned Their King
She landed on Red Bane with an expression like she was going to kill someone and that someone could only be Big Hei. They actually had the audacity to leave their King behind. How ridiculous was that?
Without making any excessive movements a red ribbon wrapped around her wrist shot out like a blade and gripped Big Hei\'s neck before yanking him. Big Hei struggled to hold the helm while unwrapping this ribbon that was tightly fastened around his neck like a boa constrictor.
It was Xunshi Zhe who had to step in and defuse the situation. He stood in front of her with his hands half-raised in surrender as he tried to reason with her.
"It\'s all a misunderstanding Captain Ching, please be merciful," he said in such a respectful tone that Lan Wu never had the privilege to experience from either of the two (Xunshi Zhe and Big Hei).
She didn\'t seem convinced at all as she advanced forward. Judging from her expression blood was going to be spilt tonight but as to whose blood it was going to be? It was hard to tell. It was either going to be the one steering the ship or the one advocating for him.
While she moved forward her steps stumbled as a loud explosion reaching the skies drew their attention. From a distance, one could see a tiny figure battling it would with a giant spider-like creature.
She could clearly see the current state Ji Yao was in and just like his father when he was at the peak of his strength one couldn\'t intervene unless they had a death wish.
Her ribbon unwound itself from Big Hei\'s throat not forgetting to warn him with a hiss as it backed away.
Big Hei, "...."
He was the one who had been wronged, okay. He looked aggrieved as he rubbed his sore neck. What he didn\'t know was that the universe had already revenged for him. You see, the good madam was tough and all but she couldn\'t stand the sight of critters be it roaches, millipedes, ants and most of all spiders.
It is indeed a blessing she didn\'t go with Ji Yao otherwise she would be standing as stiff as she was standing now with a face as white as a sheet of paper. The Yinying creature wouldn\'t have to instil a terrible nightmare in her brain because its true form was her perfect nightmare.
She kept staring blankly at that big critter twice the size of Red Bane until her eyes were suddenly covered in darkness. She could smell the scent of rain after a drought from the hands covering her eyes.
"Don\'t look, okay?" whispered Zhang Li while standing behind her.
Lady Ching Sei gulped to restrain herself from speaking harsh words that were right at the tip of her tongue. She wanted to slap his hand away and cuss him out but when she recalled the giant spider she had to think twice about her decision.
For some reason, Old Du thought this would be the perfect time to discuss the um... the Xiaoyu issue so he walked over only to be met by this interesting scene. They were like a pair of teenage lovers with the boy sneaking behind the girl and asking, "Guess who?" with a sugary smile. Argh, too much sweetness. Even he had to admit, they definitely suited each other.
He ignored the awkwardness of this situation and walked over before saying, "Sorry for disturbing whatever this is but.... can we discuss something? It\'s very important."
Since she couldn\'t see she followed the voice disregarding the tone of Old Du\'s voice. She had other things to worry about which was mostly the giant spider which meant she would gladly follow him and discuss whatever he wants to discuss no matter what it is.
Old Du watched with great interest as Zhang Li shifted to the side following the movements of her face so he could keep her eyes closed.
If only he could dissect Zhang Li and study his heart. He would love to see if the hearts of people in love beat the same way as those who aren\'t in love. That would be an interesting experiment.
Zhang Li felt very uncomfortable when he saw the strange look in Old Du\'s eyes. He looked like a mad scientist staring intently at a lab rat he was about to cut open. It seemed he might have to watch his back for the next couple of days lest Old Du gets any strange ideas.
"Follow me," said Old Du before turning to walk away. He led the two to Xiaoyu\'s cabin intending to show them the patient and explain how he found her but who would have thought her bruises had gotten worse as though infested.
Lady Ching Sei who had long smacked Zhang Li\'s hand away furrowed her brows as she stared at the dark swollen three centimetre wide lines crisscrossing around her neck. She knelt by her bedside and lowered her head to take a closer look as she asked, "Will it heal?"
Old Du who had the faintest idea folded his arms as though absolving himself of all responsibility. If the healing elixir made it worse then who knows if it will ever get better. "What did this?" asked Zhang Li with his head tilted to the side noticing a pattern within the lines. There were faint characters within the lines or maybe it was a motif of some kind.
"It\'s not what but who....," replied Old Du and everyone stared at him, "I think Rui Fei did it."
"Are you sure?" asked Lady Ching Sei as her heart sank at the pit of her stomach. If this is what Rui Fei did to someone who dared to rival him in love then what would he do if Ji Yao rejects him in the future? In her eyes, someone this explosive and heartless shouldn\'t stay beside Ji Yao. She was certain that even Ji Wen would agree.
"Seventy... no ninety per cent sure," he replied after careful consideration.
Zhang Li turned to leave to everyone\'s puzzlement. It was Lady Ching Sei who ended up asking him, "Where are you going?"
With his hand on the doorknob, he said, "If anyone would know if he did this it would be his siblings. How about we ask them?" Surprisingly he didn\'t let out some cheesy remark like \'why, will you miss me\'. He seriously answered the question which was quite impressive. He had matured.
But before the door shut he continued saying, "I know you will miss me. I promise I won\'t take long. Even I can\'t bear to... shit!" He swore because the lady with a terrible temper threw Xiaoyu\'s shoe at the door cutting off his sentence. Spoke too soon, he was anything but mature.
His plan was good on paper but the reality was that these two siblings weren\'t the sharing kind. They would either keep their mouths shut which was more likely or if they do speak it was to protect their brother. They would go as far as fabricating an elaborate alibi for their older brother.
Good luck with that Zhang Li.
