Chapter 100: Book 1 Character Introductions
Name: Igni Talcoyz / Igni
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [FIRE] : [F] ; “Ultimate Spell Specialization • Spell One” ; <MAGIC> 【The Miracle of Creation】; 【The Miracle of Dimensions】
Characteristics:
A teenager coming of age whose most basic and core character is driven by the desire to be popular with the ladies on a primal instinct level. He was not blessed with any Magic Compatibility, but he was blessed with a good grandfather. His original Magic Power Reserves and his talents were abysmal to non-existent, but even from that situation, through his grandfather’s training and his desire to want to be [POPULAR], those two things pushed him towards being【THE STRONGEST】. He is satisfied with his current strength and ability, but on the contrary has NO satisfaction with his current popularity level. He lost his mother very early in life, and doesn’t even remember her face or voice. Additionally, he’s an idiot.
【 Lucas 】
Name: Lucas Talcoyz / Lucas
Wizard’s Title: “Ultimate Light”
Ability: [LIGHT] : [SSS]
Characteristics:
The very culprit to blame for the way Igni is today. He is the oldest [Extreme], but he has equally diminished his reputation by fooling around with too many women and was excommunicated from the Talcoyz Family and noble society. If the question, “Who is the world’s strongest” comes up, he will always be either the 1st or 2nd contender. He has a habit of wandering and will never be in one place for long. He perpetually continues to travel around the world. He is one of [The Kingdom of Anthem]’s [Extreme] Wizards.
【 Aurelio 】
Name: Aurelio Talcoyz
Wizard’s Title:
Ability:
Characteristics:
Igni’s father. His life’s mission is to revive his noble family’s lost reputation. Lucas taught him that “there will be nothing good coming from regaining your noble reputation,” but not believing those words, he is currently wandering blindly through life.
【 Fray 】
Name: Fray Talcoyz
Wizard’s Title: “The Light of Dawn”
Ability: [Extreme Light] : [SS] ; [THE LIGHT OF DAWN] {SUNRISE • ZERO}
Characteristics:
Igni’s younger half-brother. So he doesn’t look like Igni at all. He is blessed with a Higher-Tier Magic Compatibility and also has many times more the Magic Reserves compared to the average person. He legitimately believes himself that this gift was given to him by God and holds something similar to a “chosen or higher race” like ideal and has a bias against any who cannot use spells. His dream is to have his father approve of him as part of the Talcoyz family. He has not considered at all what he would do after that point, but his brother has equally not thought of what he would do after he is popular, so seeing how they are both mistaking the means to an end shows how they are truly brothers. The meaning to his Wizard Title “Shokou” (曙光) (Dawn’s Light) is literally “the Light of Dawn.”
【 Rose 】
Name: Rose Aquilmarun
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [HOLY] : [S]
Characteristics:
A girl whose [HOLY] Magic Trait awakened, and the Kingdom has dubbed her a national Saint. She is the only daughter of the [WATER] Magic Trait Noble Family of Aquilmarun. After she was made a [SAINT], she was taken to the Holy Nation and unable to endure the harsh training, began to escape and fantasize that “Igni will come save her.” Her obsessive thoughts took hold of her, and by the end of Book 1, she turned into what you saw. Additionally, it was Aurelio who negated their marriage engagement. His argument was, “I cannot bear to send a Compatibility F to such a reputable family], and Rose’s parents reluctantly agreed after hearing about Igni’s results.
【 Alicia 】
Name: Alicia Esmeralda
Wizard’s Title: The Hurricane
Ability: [WIND] : [A]
Characteristics:
From an early age to 15 years old, she was being utilized as an aviatory secret weapon. This was partly her eldest sister’s influence and fault where sending out people with the talent to the battlefield became the norm. Having to kill people everyday, fables and fairy tales became her escape during these times. While the hope of wanting to be rescued some day directly conflicted with her belief that no human being like that could actually exist, due to a promise Lucas made with a certain someone, she was given an opportunity to escape and take refuge. She was almost late the first day even though she flew non-stop from the Empire to the Rolmod Wizard Academy right after Lucas gave her the papers. Lucas had nothing to do with Igni waking up late, so the fact that the two met was a pure coincidence. The reason why she is so strong is due to her efforts and training.
Additionally, her title “The Hurricane” is derived from the Kanji (Chinese character) “颱” is the “Tai” in “Typhoon” or the character for “Typhoon”. This character is not “WIND” as it is denoted, so for those *weeb readers, please do not make this mistake.
{{CHONKY Note - I used the American word “Hurricane” instead of the Asian context “Typhoon” to cater to American audiences but Alicia’s Wizard Title in Asian contexts will be “The Typhoon”.}}
【 Edward 】
Name: Edward
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [LIFE]
Characteristics:
At least from an appearance standpoint, he appeared after Alicia, so he\'s the second oldest character. He holds to the belief that those with Magic Talent are responsible for helping those without, and due to that bias, he could not understand why a person without any Magic Compatibility would enter the Wizard Academy without committing admission fraud. He has two *minions follow him around.
{{CHONKY Notes - *minions - torimaki - (取り巻き) - people who follow around those with authority and find that it’s their duty to uphold the authority of that figure and does their bidding. I just went with “minion” since they weren’t violent. Otherwise, “thugs” or “goons” would be more appropriate in that context.}}
【 Elina 】
Name: Elina Owlight
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [MAGIC SWORDSMAN]
Characteristics: A girl who wants to be Number 1. She comes from a family that has many reputable and famous knights and grew up being compared to the people around her constantly. Because of that, her desire to become Number 1 became extremely strong. She is proud of the fact that she became the 1st Year’s Representative even though there were many others in her 1st Year class with Wizard’s Titles. Additionally, the runner-up was Fray. They had a 5 point difference.
【 Mila 】
Name: Mila
Wizard’s Title: “The Gateway”
Ability: [UNIQUE ORIGINAL] Magic Trait
Characteristics: She is one of the rare and few Elves who has melted into Human society. Her magic ability trait relates to [SPACE]. She is the model teacher who will do everything to teach anything the students want to know. She has been a teacher the longest at the Academy, and there are many things she likes about teaching, but she likes being thanked by the students the most and works hard to be thanked. There was a conflict between her and the Elves, and she will not speak about being an Elf and the Elves will not speak about her. I know this doesn’t need to be said for students who graduated elementary school, but the kanji “hira” (開) used for Mila’s “Gateway” title is not read as “Gateway” in real-life so please be careful to not make that error.
【 Yoori 】
Name: Yoori
Wizard’s Name: None
Ability: [DARK] : [S]
Characteristics:
He is a very feminine male or a lady-like male. A very feminine, lady-like male. He grew up in a rural, small town in the country and cannot use attack spells. He is Igni’s very first friend ever.
【 Elenoir 】
Name: Elenoir
Wizard’s Title: “The Puppeteer”
Ability: [LIFE] : [B]
Characteristics:
Though she is only a Compatibility [B], she rose up to the status of Rolmod Academy’s teacher by effort and her keen Magic sense. She wears glasses and has big breasts. She is one of the newer teachers and is constantly out of money. She feels something similar inside Igni and is especially aware of him.
【 Iris 】
Name: Iris
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [EARTH] : [S]
Characteristics:
Blessed with Magic Compatibility but is an *easily manipulated heroine - {{CHONKY Notes LiT - Lost in Translation}} i.e. “choro-in” (チョロイン) which is a combination of “choroi” “(ちょろい) - easy to fool, easy to manipulate, gullible, taken advantage of and “heroine” (ヒロイン).}}
【 Miru 】
Name: Miru
Wizard’s Title: “The Undoer”
Characteristics:
H-U-G-E breasts. No further explanation needed.
【 Miko 】
Name: Miko
Wizard’s Title:
Ability: [LIFE]
Characteristics
Upper-classmen Miss Miko!
{{CHONKY Notes LiT - Lost in Translation - *Miko-Chan-Sempai. “chan” is an affectionate honorific that is very difficult to translate. The only equivalent I can think of is an affectionate pet name or nickname someone you love calls you by. Sempai is an upperclassman, but there are….certain “preferences” deeply tied to the Otaku/Weeb community concerning “sempai”s that I won’t expand on. In short, to Igni, Miko is Miko-chan-sempai which sums up everything she is to him.}}
【 Valia 】
Name: Valia
Wizard’s Title:
Ability: Accumulate curses
Characteristics: She is wrapped up in bandages and is a silent upperclassman that does not speak a word.
【 Frenda 】
Name: Frenda
Wizard’s Title: None
Ability: [WATER]
Characteristics:
An athletic girl. She was a contestant in the [TOURNAMENT] and looks after her lower classman. She looks after Igni a lot. The practice test questions that Igni has mostly come from Miss Frenda.
【 Erumi 】
Name: Erumi
Wizard’s Title: “Warped”
Ability:
Characteristics: Extreme masochist. Her Wizard’s Title though is not from her sexual preference but from the essence and trait of her spell.
【 Celia 】
Name: Celia Esmeralda
Wizard’s Title: “Undeath”
Ability: [LIFE] <MAGIC> 【The Miracle of Immortality】
Characteristics:
The [Extreme] of [Life]. She is a “Magician.” She is the biological elder sister of Alicia, and is the only [Extreme] that represents the Empire. Her ability is “Immortality” and no matter how much damage she suffers or wounds she accumulates, she can reverse all of its effects by dying. She is a hard-core [STRENGTH ABOVE ALL] follower, and believes that those with power are free to do as they please. Her compatibility against Igni’s <MAGIC> is of the cruelest and worst compatibilities imaginable.
Here, this is something additional I would like to explain about her Wizard\'s Title “Shinazu” (殯しなず). The correct way to read this is “Mogari” or “Araki”. In ancient Japan, they used to mummify the remains of a body as part of the funeral process. In Japan, they have a slightly similar practice called “O-tsuu-ya” (お通夜) which is the family spending one more night with their beloved family member who passed. But the actual “Mogari” left the body out until the remains turned into a skeleton, and apparently those with high statuses were left there for up to 3 years. At the time, the means to confirm death were little to none, and some actually were not dead and there are some cases when a person in a coma-like state came back to life. The “Mogari” was to give a chance to the presumed “dead,” another chance to come back to life without burying or cremating the body - probably.
CHONKY Notes LiT (Lost in Translation)
*weeb ; (chuu-ni-byou) 厨二病 - Interestingly enough, the first Kanji character “chuu” (厨) can mean “insane fandom” in Chinese. I do not speak a lick of Chinese so I’m taking Google’s word for it. Forgive me if I’m wrong, Chinese speakers. In JAPANESE, the word is a play on words. Japan’s public school system goes Elementary 1st through 6th grade which is “shogakkou” (小学校)(note the “shou” (小) kanji which means “small”); Middle-school (中学校) which is 1st year to 3rd year (note the “chuu” (中) kanji which means “in-between” or “middle”); and finally, high-school “kou-kou” (高校) for 3 years (note the “high” (高) kanji for “high” school). I had to go into this tirade of TL’DR because “CHUU” and “NI” are “Middle” and “2nd.” It’s the 2nd year of middle school. In a 12 year grade school system, it would be the 8th year which most Americans would understand is the 8th grade of middle school. So the “Chuu” “Ni” (Middle - 2nd) refers to 8th grade. “Byou” (病) is illness. So put it together and you get “The extreme fandom illness that you suffer during 8th grade middle school.” Have you secretly practiced your “ka-me-ha-me-ha” (カメハメ波) by yourself in your room after watching Dragon Ball Z during middle school? You have suffered “Chuu-ni-byou.” Did you think that saying really cool phrases you see in movies and books in real life made you look cool? At least in Japan, if that was from a manga or anime, you suffered “chuu-ni-byou.” Weeb-dom has been a more recent word (at least to an old boomer like me), but it shares a lot of similarities and overlaps with “chuu-ni-byou” without associating it to a certain public school grade-level.
