Chapter 139 - Riddles

Stepping forward, Lena grabbed the piece of paper out and unfolded.

"Based upon the presumption that directions were followed the reader of this should be the queen. If so, continue forward and determine what the next best step would be."

That was the length of the instruction on the note with nothing else written on either side of the paper. How was that supposed to help her know what she needed to do?

Aside from the two different hallways in the room, there was no clues or guide as to what she was supposed to do next. She had to decide between right and left but nothing to help her decide. Even a coin to flip would\'ve been beneficial at this point.

The goal of the queen was to protect the king as it was the only other free moving piece on the board. The problem was however that she had no idea where exactly the king was in building.

She finally decided on going left as her instincts told her that was the best direction to choose. She didn\'t know if that was true or not, but it worked for her.

By appearance the left side looked slightly darker and more difficult to go through. She could see what was in front of her but not much else past that.

There noises throughout the hall that indicated how old the building was based upon the creaking and other sounds that it was making in the walls. How it lasted this long was a wonder to her.

She made sure as she walked further down to keep an eye on the walls and other surrounding areas for any small detail she might\'ve been quick to overlook. The only thing that she noticed was that the further in she went, the hotter it was becoming. She couldn\'t afford to take off her jacket however because she didn\'t want to lose easy access to her gun. She was just going to have to deal with it for the time being until she could figure out where she was at.

She didn\'t have to walk much further before she came to the end where two more doors were located. One lead straight and the other was to her right. She was conflicted on which one to choose.

Naturally she thought that forward would be the most logical way forward because it usually was the shortest distance from point A to point B. She wasn\'t certain that was the case in this situation however. Thinking about the way she would move if she was playing chess and had her limited board to help her win made her feel like choosing the door to the right was the better choice since it was similar in her mind to choosing a diagonal direction would be the most logical move to close distance.

Upon entering the from, she couldn\'t stop herself from flinching when the door closed behind her without her touching it which was rather disconcerting. Following this, she also got a text from Romeo stating that he had for now hit a dead end on what he was supposed to do next. He had been given a riddle and needed time to figure out how to solve it.

Riddles now? This felt more like someone was bored and wanted to play a game rather than them dealing with a serious life and death situation. What did a riddle even have to do with why Jovani wanted anything to do with her and Samuel?

Thinking about it too much was going to give her a headache as she was already feeling the fatigue from the other day weighing on her. Lack of sleep was not very beneficial to her in the current situation and the heat the further she moved into the building wasn\'t helping. It probably indicated less airflow based upon the way that it was structured.

The bright lights didn\'t help either beyond making it so that she wasn\'t having to move through complete darkness. The princess didn\'t worry any less though about where she was stepping as she wouldn\'t discount the risk of any kind of trap being set until she made it through the whole building.

The hall ended shortly as she came to another door that was locked and required the same key that she had used to open the back door of the building. Until it was opened she was slightly skeptical as to whether she had just been lead in a circle or not. When it opened however, she saw that it lead into another small room. The door once again closed behind her and this time locked.

It was a rather small room with a chair and table in it, no other doors were apparent but unlike the other dark colored walls that she had been through thus far, this room had white walls. The only problem she saw was that there appeared to be no way ahead, the only door visible was the one that she just came through and locked behind. This perhaps wasn\'t a good a sign in the slightest.

Seeing no other option, she decided to take a seat in the chair and look at what was on the table. Besides the piece of paper was a bottle of water. Although it looked as though it hadn\'t been open or touched, Lena knew better than to take such things from a potential enemy whose goals she didn\'t quite understand yet.

She texted the other two to see what was going on as she let them know she had come across her own riddle now, two of them actually.

The first one was: what is it that a queen can not do that every other piece can?

The second was: I move with purpose, but never far. All will lay down their lives for me, though I am rarely violent and none aspire to be me.

Below this the note read: Congratulations if you\'ve made this far! You need are a clever one. But, before you can move forward- you need to find the answer to both of these riddles. Once you do look around and I\'m sure you\'ll figure out where to input them.
