Chapter 388: Night Visit to the Corporal’s Mansion

City of Light.
Lin Jie strolled on the streets without any aim. The moment he completed his Advanced Job-Changing mission and reached the city, he had already sensed himself being followed. His ‘secret followers’ were shadowing him all the way from the Holy Church Square to the commercial streets, but they were doing such a lousy job that Lin Jie couldn’t contain his laughter.
If Lin Jie was in the urban areas, he would be able to use the Anti-Stealth Skill [Keen Sight] to find out who was the one following him. However, Lin Jie found it rather inconvenient to use this skill in the city—after all, this skill only lasted for one second. It would be difficult for him to find out the person following him within the massive sea of players in the city.
‘Forget it, I still have to complete the Advanced Job-Change, and then make a trip to Atlas Peak to exchange for rewards with my New Age Accomplishment Points.’ Lin Jie made a quick calculation in his mind while guessing who these secret followers might be.
Regardless of who they were, he was not the least bit alarmed—once he completed his Advanced Job-Change, he doubted anyone could pwn him.
Completing the Advanced Job-Change would allow one’s job and physical build to undergo a total transformation. Not only would one gain an all-rounded improvement in the specialty Stats of their jobs, but their capabilities would also peak at an all-high level. Moreover, according to the difficulty levels of the Advanced Job-Changing missions, one could gain additional rewards. Once they completed the Expert-Level Advanced Job-Changing Mission, they could even gain a special reward of ‘Increase in random Stats Growth Rate +0.1′. As such, every expert player would challenge to complete their respective Expert-Level Advanced Job-Changing Mission if they could.
In Lin Jie’s previous life, there had been players who would spend one, or more than one month, just to complete their Advanced Job-Changing mission.
At the Jobs Hall.
Lin Jie walked to the Warrior Mentor, smiled, and took out a cloth package, which had been cleaned up and beautified by the system. Naturally, this cloth package contained Mohamed’s head. The system had cleaned it up, or else the bloody head would be too grotesque for anyone to look at.
“You actually killed him? Corporal Mohamed?!” Warrior Mentor was so shocked that even his mustache trembled a bit. “With his abilities, even if his powers were being suppressed due to the mission’s requirements, he would be nothing lesser than a Dark Gold Overlord! Wow! Human being from the alternate realms, I initially intended to let you inherit my Gale Swordsmanship, but you have far exceeded my expectations! Haha, here, this shall be your reward then!”
Ding~
—’Congratulations! You have completed your Advanced Job-Change. You received the [Heart of Enrage]. You received the additional reward [Endurance: Stats Growth +0.1].’
—’You gained 1,000,000 EXP, 10 gold, coins, and 500 Reputation Points from the major cities, respectively. Congratulations on getting an additional award, the [Torn Treasure Map].’
Lin Jie was elated, and he quickly scanned through the treasure map. Indeed, this piece fitted perfectly with the first piece of the torn treasure map he had received. With this second piece, another place was revealed...
The revealed place seemed like the Devils Fork. There was a symbol of a milkish-white blade drawn within the depths of the Devils Fork.
This was—another blade!
Lin Jie tried hard to contain his excitement. According to the map, this place seemed to be located within one of the dungeons among the War of Light Dungeon-Group. From what he knew of the system’s rules, this blade would most probably be hidden either at the final dungeon or within a hidden dungeon.
Shifting his focus away from the blade, Lin Jie clenched his fists tightly, and a spurt of blood aura exploded, forming intense Blood Vigor! They condensed into burning flames, attaching onto Lin Jie’s armor and weapons.
This was the most important item he got from completing his Advanced Job-Change—the Heart of Enrage.
[Heart of Enrage]: Unique item for Berserkers. Your health bar’s capacity increases by 20%, your Attack and Defense capacities increase by 15% respectively, while your Attack Speed increases by 20%. Each attack will allow you to cause Bleeding of 15 points/second to your target, while you gain a Level 3 Life-Steal effect. Every time your HP decreases by 1%, you will gain an additional 1% AP. This effect can be superimposed with the effects of Blood Power. When you are near death, you can absorb the powers from the Heart of Enrage and regenerate 30% of your health bar. Cooldown period is 1 hour.
Berserkers could only get hold of the Heart of Enrage after they completed their Advanced Job-Change. This item would set the determining difference between a player who had completed the Advanced Job-Change and one who had not!
With the complementary effects of the Heart of Enrage, there was another surge in Lin Jie’s Stats. He was now truly beyond the reach of all players in the game!
Fu Sheng: [Human Berserker]
Level: 41
HP: 5,240
Mana: 200
Rage: 0
Attack: 1,283-1,453
Defense: 1,093
Strength: 734
Endurance: 345
Agility: 70
Wisdom: 28
Spirit: 15
Resistance: 41 (12% decrease during abnormal state)
Grit: 15 (The chances of an attacking skill being interrupted is decreased by 1.5%)
Block: 15 (Equipping a shield allows you to gain 10% initial Block effects)
Parry: 48 (Parry chances 13%)
With an AP as high as 1,400+ points, Defense of near to 1,100 points, and health bar of around 5,200+ points, Lin Jie was literally like a Boss himself! The complementary effects of owning the Heart of Enrage were absolutely astounding. Coupled with his over-level effects against players who had not completed their Advanced Job-Change, no one could take Lin Jie down now!
“Your abilities have far surpassed my estimation. This is the only Mystic Skill Book which I can give you, that is befitting of your abilities,” said the Warrior Mentor with a serious face, as he handed a thick, Dark Gold book over to Lin Jie.
[Mystic Skill Book: Bloodthirsty Lone Wolf Explosion] (Dark Gold)
Basic Stats: Attack +50, Strength +20, Endurance +20.
Number of skills: 5
Skills included: Blood Crave, Bloodthirsty Cleave, Wolf Soul Growl, Majestic Charge, Bloodthirsty Jump-Cut.
Lin Jie couldn’t help but reveal a smile of appreciation as he replied, “Thank you so much.”
“I have a suggestion, but I am not sure if you will like it.” The Warrior Mentor considered his words carefully before he finally continued, “With your abilities, you have no need to learn this Mystic Skill Book straightaway. Although it’s true that it can help to improve your powers significantly, the downside is, you can’t change to another Mystic Skill Book if you chose to learn it now. Although Dark Gold Mystic Skill Books are considered top-notch rewards for completing the Advanced Job-Change, and out of which this [Bloodthirsty Lone Wolf Explosion] is one of the best rewards already, I believe there are even more powerful Mystic Skill Books out there. You may want to keep this Mystic Skill Book first, and see if there are chances of finding other more powerful skills.”
Lin Jie smiled politely, thanked him, and left.
He had naturally no desire to use this Mystic Skill Book. After all, he already owned the Sea Riding Skill Mystic Skill Book, which could allow him to confound others and improve his abilities to a certain extent. Meanwhile, the Mermaid Princess might also give him a Mystic Skill Book—and a Mystic Skill Book from such a character should not fare too badly.
Right now, he only had one place in mind—Corporal Mohamed’s Mansion.
After Mohamed was killed, another Corporal would be refreshed by the system. However, this Corporal would be different from Mohamed, and he would not bear any grudges against Lin Jie as he would not have any memories of him.
The system took 24 hours to refresh an NPC.
With a slight hooking action, Lin Jie fished out a small key from his backpack—the Corporal’s Mansion Key. This would allow him to enter all the rooms within the Corporal’s Mansion. That’s right, this was something sort of like a ‘master key’. If this was in the real world and there was only one key for each lock, then most probably, the Corporal would have spawned several kilograms of keys when he died. After all, the Corporal’s Mansion was no small place, and it had at least hundreds of rooms.
Of course, one would not be able to gain access to secluded spaces such as the Corporal’s cellar or treasury with this key.
At the Corporal’s Mansion.
Two guards clad in iron armors blocked Lin Jie’s path. “This is the City of Light Corporal’s Mansion, no one is allowed to enter without permission.”
Lin Jie raised his eyebrows. “I am the Viscount, and I am under orders from Corporal Mohamed to take something from his mansion. This is the key he passed me. Please move aside and let me in now.”
Both guards were shocked after they confirmed the key’s authenticity. They backed off and let him in respectfully.
Lin Jie walked around the mansion with a calm expression, but his eyes were scanning each of the buildings. He had killed the Corporal and even dared to go to his mansion. This was something akin to a case of rob-and-kill, and now he was even seizing his properties. If he was discovered, the guards would immediately come and arrest him! However, as long as Lin Jie could get away before the NPCs discovered him, he should be alright.
A large study room appeared in his vision.
This study room was made from Flame Wood, and although the pillars were voided at the center, they still gave off scorching vibes. One could guess easily that Mohamed most probably had spent a lot of time in this study room to practice his Sun Swordsmanship. Flame Wood was high-quality wood and could absorb Fire Magic. Thus, this was the reason why this study room had not been burnt down by Mohamed’s Sun Swordsmanship.
‘Fancy him using such high-quality wood to build a study room. How wasteful... wait, can it be that he’s hiding something inside this room?’
Lin Jie blinked, and he pondered out loud, “Oh, no wonder the Corporal is always so highly esteemed by the City of Light. Being so knowledgeable, and skilled in using both brainy and brawny activities, I supposed the book he wanted me to fetch for him must be a precious notebook?”
With that, Lin Jie stepped into the study room.
The moment Lin Jie entered the study room, two ghost-like shadows appeared on the spot. They were Mohamed’s closest bodyguards, known as the ‘Shadow Guards’. Both of them had superior stealth skills, and unless one owned Advanced Scout skills, they would not be able to discover these guards.
“This human being from the alternate realms seems rather odd. Do you think I should go and test him?”
“No need. Master’s treasures are all hidden in the cellar, what can he keep in the study room? If this person’s really just fetching something for the Corporal, we will make Master appear narrow-minded with our actions. Let’s go, our duties are to guard the cellar only, anyways.”
The two figures conversed softly and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Lin Jie had already accurately predicted this would happen. Although he had not obtained the Corporal’s Mansion Key in his previous life, he had once accomplished an Epic Stealing Mission. For that mission, he had stayed in ambush outside the Corporal’s Mansion for a full month, and as such, he was very familiar with the Corporal’s Mansion.
‘Seems like those two Shadow Guards are gone.’ Lin Jie checked once again before he proceeds further into the room. ‘After all, Mohamed was famous for being narrow-minded and suspicious of people. He won’t even trust his subordinates—or else, why would he choose to kill me by himself all alone? I bet there must be some treasures hidden in this room.’
There were 20 bookshelves situated neatly within the room. The whole room smelled heavily of books, and together with the faint aromas given off by the wooden furniture, one couldn’t help but feel relaxed being in the room. Lin Jie picked up a book randomly and flipped through its pages. Suddenly, he spotted an exquisite-looking book—it was a book from the “Young Female Viscount Beth·Jelliya” series, an infamous pornography series in The New Age. Normal civilians would not be able to get their hands on any copy of the series if they did not have the correct connections.
“Cough, I need to check through this book. It may contain some unknown secrets.” Lin Jie coughed dryly and made up a ‘reason’ for himself as he flipped open the book, going through the sexy illustrations. However, before he flipped through much of its pages, his face grew as red as a beetroot, and he couldn’t stand it anymore. As for the reason... cough, it’s best not to elaborate further.
Lin Jie quickly closed the book. Just when he was about to put it back, he suddenly noticed a glimmer of light shining out from within the book’s pages!
‘Something’s not right!’
Lin Jie flipped open the book again, and scrutinized each page... cough, started searching for the oddity carefully. Finally, he managed to get to one page, which shimmered dimly.
A faint illustration, which was embroidered with thin gold strands, was visible on that page. That illustration... One could make out a Warrior half-kneeling down, holding a torn shield and a sharp sword. Tight lines made up the figure’s face—this was an illustration of a Spartan Warrior fighting till his death!
‘This must have some connections with the [Secret Techniques of Clomaros]!’
