Chapter 127 - 130: The Elders Kneel Before Her
“I’ll go down now.” Lily Gray got up from the bed, roughly tidied her hair, and went downstairs without changing clothes.
She’s only two months pregnant now, and her belly is not showing. If she wore her usual clothes, one wouldn’t be able to tell she was pregnant.
Wearing casual clothes could remind her mother-in-law that she carries a baby now.
Hopefully, she would go easier on her for the baby’s sake.
Just as she walked downstairs, Emily Taylor, who was sitting on the living room sofa, saw her coming and immediately stood up.
“Lily, why did you come down?”
Emily Taylor walked towards her, but couldn’t help complaining to Ellie who followed her, “Didn’t I ask you not to disturb Lily? She’s pregnant and sleepy… We have nothing important anyway, just let her sleep longer. Who asked you to wake her up?”
Ellie looked guilty. She initially thought that Emily Taylor was just uttering polite words, not realizing they were sincere.
“Madam, I’m sorry.” Ellie apologized repeatedly, but Emily Taylor wasn’t buying it.
She feels guilty towards Lily Gray now and only wants to treat her well in all aspects.
Ellie is her servant, but she previously held prejudices against Lily Gray, and thus was happy about Ellie slighting Lily.
But now, she must make it clear to these servants that her attitude towards Lily Gray has changed. Whoever treats Lily Gray badly is crossing Emily Taylor.
“Never mind… I’m not sleepy anyway. I just took a nap, it’s not a big deal.” Lily Gray defended Ellie, “Ellie, please bring some pastries and brew a pot of fruit tea. I feel like having some.”
Ellie gratefully shot Lily Gray a glance before quickly retreating into the kitchen.
Only then did Lily Gray direct her gaze to the other two people.
Emma Shaw and Angelina Shaw came along with Emily Taylor this time and were currently standing stiffly by the sofa, trying to curry favor with her.
Compared to Emily Taylor who just looked slightly off-color, Emma Shaw and Angelina Shaw appeared to be in much poorer shape.
This was particularly true for Emma Shaw. Age had not been kind to her face, and there were more fine lines now. She’d lost weight, and her complexion was sallow. Despite the thick layer of makeup, she still looked haggard.
It was obvious that her days in the Shaw family were not pleasant after the incident.
Seeing Lily Gray’s gaze fall on Emma Shaw, Emily Taylor hastened to explain, “Lily, your aunt and Grace came especially to apologize to you this time. Of course, what happened was serious. If you want to forgive them, forgive them; if not, that’s also fine. The most important thing is for you to be happy and not to hold a grudge.”
Emily’s heart was completely with Lily Gray now.
She had grudgingly agreed to bring Emma Shaw and the others over today only after being repeatedly begged.
She knew that The Taylors had given Emma Shaw a strict order to secure Lily Gray’s forgiveness at all costs.
But Emily felt that Lily Gray must be feeling uncomfortable about the incident. Even if she herself were in Lily’s place, she wouldn’t easily forgive the person who’d pushed her down the stairs.
Especially since, as a mother, she understood Lily Gray’s feelings even more.
So this time, she only played the facilitator. Early in the morning, she’d already made it clear with Emma and the others that she wouldn’t side with them at all.
But surprisingly, just as Emily Taylor had helped Lily Gray to sit down, Emma Shaw, who hadn’t said a word the whole time, suddenly approached Lily and, with a thump, knelt down in front of her.
“Aunt, what are you doing… Get up quickly!” Lily Gray was so scared that she immediately got up to help her.
“No, Lily… 1 was too foolish this time. I was muddleheaded… Lily, 1 owe you an apology. I’ll kowtow to you, I’ll admit my mistake…. – please, forgive me!”
