Chapter 169: 169: Unusual Gentle and Considerate Behavior

The fork slipped from Jin Chenye’s hand and hit the floor with a crisp metallic sound.

“Ye, are you okay?” Meng Ziqi stood up anxiously from his seat, intending to reach for Jin Chenye’s hand.

“I’m fine, it was just a slip.” Jin Chenye politely avoided Meng Ziqi’s hand and glanced at a nearby waiter; someone immediately stepped forward to pick up the dropped fork and replace the entire set of tableware.

“So Mr. Jin can’t even handle steak since he returned to the country.” Dan Hanjie gave an arrogant, icy smirk, a coldness spreading from him. His words were tinged with frostiness.

“Mr. Dan, you’re joking, here’s a toast to you.” Jin Chenye lifted his glass of red wine.

“Me too.” Meng Ziqi also raised her glass, her demeanor was like that of Jin Chenye’s wife, her every move was genteel.

Jin Chenye’s brows furrowed slightly, but he remained silent.

“Let’s drink together!” Qin Youxuan, who had immersed herself in eating, finally satisfied her hunger just a little and reached for her wine glass.

“You still have a wound, sip a little bit just to quench your thirst.” Qin Youxuan’s fingertips hadn’t touched the glass before Dan Hanjie grasped them.

Her slender, jade-like fingers in his broad palm were indescribably warm, and the atmosphere instantly became romantic.

The painting of a loving couple’s flirtations made Jin Chenye grip his wine glass tighter, his fingers almost crushing the glass, tempting him to drag Qin Youxuan away.

Meng Ziqi seemed to be very happy. Aside from her initial shock, her light smile never faded from her face.

“I’ve only had one sip…” Qin Youxuan’s fingertips trembled, and she couldn’t help but look at Dan Hanjie twice more.

If it wasn’t for the fact others were present, she would really like to reach out and touch his forehead.

Was he delirious with fever?

He was unusually warm and considerate today!

Ordinarily, he wouldn’t kindly cut her steak. Even if he did, he would grimace and remark how she couldn’t even handle steak, as if he was performing a charitable act.

Then he would mock her, “Qin Youxuan, drink up. If your wound gets infected, it serves you right.”

That was more consistent with his twisted personality: cool, overbearing, and sardonic.

Was the man in front of her really Dan Hanjie that she knew?

Qin Youxuan couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, but didn’t ask the obvious question.

“Do you really want to drink?” Dan Hanjie was apparently unconcerned as he played with Qin Youxuan’s fingers, refusing to let go.

His charming gaze was shot through with an odd light, something others may not understand…

But Qin Youxuan immediately discerned his warning. She swiftly shook her head, “Actually, I don’t really want to. You guys go ahead and drink, I’ll eat my steak!”

Eat steak…

Qin Youxuan withdrew her hand and concentrated on the steak in front of her.

“What do you mean ‘You have a wound’? Xiao Xuan, you’re injured!” Meng Ziqi exclaimed in surprise, standing up abruptly. It didn’t look like she was just pretending to be worried.

“It’s just a small wound. I happened to get it by accident. It’s fine now.” Qin Youxuan paused before lifting her head.

Her gaze instinctively moved toward Jin Chenye, catching a fleeting expression of veiled knowledge pass over his face. Her heart sank.

He knew after all.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” After hearing Dan Hanjie warn her to moderate her drinking, Meng Ziqi was doubtful of Qin Youxuan’s story and kept checking Qin Youxuan for injuries.

While she didn’t see any wounds, she did notice a hickey on Qin Youxuan’s neck, causing her gaze to stall.
