Chapter 26 - 26: Impulse

Chapter Twenty-six: Impulse

Yang Zhen’er turned to Tang Baona in disbelief and said, “Did he… did he just curse me?”

Indeed, Xiang Kun’s initial reaction, “Damn it,” was partly directed at her, seemingly like a curse.

Xiang Kun was quite far from the youngster with yellow hair, and the quick glance only lasted for a fraction of a second before he pretended to look at something else. Thus, Yang Zhen’er and Tang Baona didn’t notice he was actually watching someone.

Seeing Xiang Kun leaving right after saying “We’ll be in touch,” Yang Zhen’er couldn’t help herself: “No, he has to come back and explain! Why did he curse?”

But Tang Baona pulled her friend back, somewhat hesitatingly: “I think… he wasn’t cursing at you? Maybe it’s just like saying ‘damn it’ or something. It seems like he was in a hurry…”

But before she could finish her sentence, Yang Zhen’er pulled her along to pursue Xiang Kun.

Although Xiang Kun was just walking briskly, he was no slowpoke. Swiftly navigating through the crowd, he moved with great agility. If he hadn’t stopped, there would be no easy way for the two girls to catch up with him.

Having caught up with Xiang Kun, Yang Zhen’er called out, “Baldy! Who were you cursing just now?”

Xiang Kun looked back at the girls with a surprised face: “Why did you follow me here?”

Then realizing something, he said apologetically, “I’m sorry, I just blurted out a curse when I was gathering my thoughts. But I swear I wasn’t cursing at you…”

Yang Zhen’er frowned: “Who were you cursing then? And, what’re you doing here, making a phone call secretly?” She pointed to the cell phone in his hand, which was still on a call.

Looking at Xiang Kun’s facial expression and behavior, which betrayed no false pretenses, both Yang Zhen’er and Tang Baona sensed that he seemed to be dealing with something important.

Just as Xiang Kun was about to answer, he was suddenly attacked by the yellow-haired man who had been lurking in the alley.

Xiang Kun’s dynamic vision was far superior to average individuals. He clearly saw the vicious look in the yellow-haired man’s eyes, the horrifying facial expression, and most importantly, his tightly clenched short dagger.

Has this guy gone mad?

Without any panic, fear, or confusion, Xiang Kun faced the yellow-haired man charging at him with a dagger. Instead of dodging, he stepped to the left, blocking the path of his attack. As the man attempted to stab him with the dagger, Xiang Kun casually but precisely grabbed his wrist, manipulating his body forward. With his right hand, still clutching his phone, he simply pushed him into the air.

In just a moment, Xiang Kun flipped the yellow-haired man into the air. He landed on his back, his head taking a nasty hit. Entirely disoriented from the impact, he loosened his grip on the dagger.

Seeing the yellow-haired man trying to regain his footing, Xiang Kun wouldn’t allow it. He went over and pressed his knee against the man’s lower back, pushing him back to the ground. With his left hand, he twisted the man’s arms behind his back and used his knee to keep him down.

Despite the man’s desperate resistance, Xiang Kun handled him with ease. He needed only his left hand to settle the matter—his right hand was still holding his phone.

“Damn you! Let me go! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill your whole family! Fuck you…”

The yellow-haired man cursed loudly. Xiang Kun grabbed his hair with his left hand and directly pressed his face to the ground. Unable to speak or even open his mouth, the man’s nose and mouth started to bleed.

Usually, it’s impossible to press someone’s face on the ground using one hand, as the person being suppressed would definitely struggle, twist their head, and avoid being held down.

But Xiang Kun overpowered the yellow-haired man so completely that he could hold him down with one hand. All the while, his other hand was adjusting his sliding glasses while holding his phone. He looked at the astonished Tang Baona and Yang Zhen’er: “There’s no need to be afraid. He’s a wanted criminal. I’ve called the police, they’ll be here soon…”

After having the yellow-haired man under control, Xiang Kun had a sudden urge to shatter his skull, or simply break his spine with his knee.

Even though Xiang Kun was certain that he wasn’t upset about the man’s curses, nor was he enraged about the attack.

This sudden and inexplicable impulse was hard to describe. It felt similar to learning a high-level skill in a video game after paying a hefty price, and wanting to test it out on a monster; or practicing a song or a dance routine for a long time, and wanting to perform it on stage.

Having completely subdued the yellow-haired man, Xiang Kun had a sudden urge to unleash his power.

However, this impulsive thought was fleeting and not strong enough to act on. Xiang Kun could control himself. Hence, he turned his attention to Tang Baona and her friend.

When the yellow-haired man first charged at him, Tang Baona and Yang Zhen’er weren’t entirely aware of what was happening. It was even less likely for them to see his short dagger.

So, when Xiang Kun suddenly captured a man and threw him into the air, making him land on his back hitting his head, and then continued to brutally suppress the man on the ground, the girls were genuinely shocked. They instinctively huddled together and took a step back.

But as Xiang Kun held down the yellow-haired man and explained to them, and they noticed the short dagger on the ground, they finally understood what had happened.

Officer Chen’s voice came from the phone: “Mr. Xiang, what’s going on?! What happened over there? Did you fight? Did you fight with the suspect?…”

The fight between Xiang Kun and the yellow-haired man was brief, but it did cause quite a disturbance, especially in this densely populated street. People were scared out of their wits and instinctively backed off, forming a circle with plenty of space. Some people even started recording video with their phones.

Luckily, the police arrived in less than two minutes.

A few policemen who were ordered by Officer Chen arrived, took control of the yellow-haired man, and verified his identity. They handcuffed him and took him to the police station, with Xiang Kun accompanying them.

Before getting into the police car, Xiang Kun signaled to Tang Baona and Yang Zhen’er with his phone, indicating they would connect later on the phone.

Watching the police car carrying the yellow-haired man and Xiang Kun away, and more police cars arriving, Yang Zhen’er couldn’t help but whisper to her friend, “Nana, you said he was unemployed… Could he have become a police officer now?”

“How could that be possible? It’s not so easy to become a police officer, and he didn’t graduate from a police academy.” Tang Baona frowned. But thinking back to Xiang Kun’s actions from earlier, he did indeed resemble an undercover cop. And they almost interfered with him catching a criminal.

Could it be that Brother Bin and Sister Han got it wrong, and Xiang Kun’s real job is being a police officer, with programming being just a cover?

Before she knew it, Tang Baona’s imagination had started running wild.
