Chapter 339

What the Hell? [Part 1]

Francesca was confused.

Francesca was simply happy when Emma said she would introduce her pet cat, which she often used as the model for her embroidery designs.

The cat embroideries Emma stitched were always so wonderful and lovely.

Francesca herself had little chance to see cats in her seventeen years of life as they were so highly priced.

Not many could actually afford a pet as expensive as a mansion, not even nobles.

She had only seen a handful of flamboyant and pretentious people showing off their cats at tea parties a few times.

Francesca used to belong to the First Prince Faction (which consisted of relatively many flamboyant nobles).

She was confused because she had seen normal cats a few times before.

‘Is the one before my eyes really a cat?’

“It’s fluffy, Caitlyn!”

“It’s purring, Catherine!”

“Oh my, it’s my first time seeing a cat this big.”

Catherine, Caitlyn, and even Marion patted that huge cat-like creature and enjoyed its glossy fur.

“Par…don? Shouldn’t we first question whether it is truly a cat? Isn’t it too big, no matter how you look at it…?”

Francesca could understand if the naive twins accepted the cat so readily, but even Marion too?!

Even though feeling left out, Francesca still couldn’t convince herself that the huge beast before her was a cat.

“It is said that the animal that meows is a cat, right, Catherine?”

“I heard that the animal that meows is a cat, Caitlyn?”

‘We were surprised by its size until we heard its meow, but it meowed, so it must be a cat.’ The twins nodded to each other.

“Meow!”

“ “See, Francesca-sama

! It meowed just now!” ”

It seemed like the definition of a cat to the twins was whether or not it meowed.

“Francesca-sama, Koumei-san is cute. It’s so cute, so of course it’s a cat.”

Marion was so engrossed in enjoying the fluffy fur that it was hard to believe she was depressed just a few seconds ago.

“Ah… even Marion-sama… also believes it…”

Although Marion was steadfast, she was still a young lady of one of the only four Duke households in the Kingdom. She was the epitome of a young lady. As a girl who had lived a very sheltered life, it wasn’t strange if she was a little more sophisticated and worldly-wise than others.

But Francesca was worried when she saw Marion believed so simply that it was a cat.

“Eh? Cats are actually not this big?”

“ “!” ”

“Hm?”

“Eh?”

A boy’s voice was heard from out of nowhere… but strangely, he couldn’t be seen anywhere.

“Meow!”

The girls wanted to think it was just an auditory hallucination, but everyone clearly heard the boy’s voice. When they looked around their surroundings, trying to figure out what it was, Koumei meowed once and stared fixedly at an empty space with no one or anything.

“I wonder what Koumei-san is looking at, Catherine?”

“There’s nothing there, Caitlyn.”

“Eh? Can it see something there? …like a ghost?”

Cats often stared at an empty space for no reason, but when combined with the boy’s voice the young ladies had heard earlier, they couldn’t help but get shivers.

“Emma, what is Koumei-san saying?”

Melsa asked Emma who understood cat language.

“Hm? She was saying something like ‘Long time no see~’…”

Emma also looked at the empty spot Koumei was staring at with an expression that said, “I wonder what?”

“…Eh? Words… eh?”

Francesca didn’t miss Emma’s voice as she translated cat language like she was very used to it. Francesca couldn’t keep up with her retorts.

“Meow!”

Koumei suddenly rose to her feet and walked to the empty spot she had been staring at.

“Ah…”

Marion stretched her hand to the leaving Koumei, reluctant to part with the fluff.

As for Koumei, she licked the empty spot she had been staring at for a while.

And as she did so…

“Woah!”

With a *shoom* sound, a boy holding his cheeks in agony suddenly appeared in the previously empty space.
