Chapter 81 - 81: Fairy Clothes

The Great Demon of Green Python Mountain, the White Wolf Lord, was feeling distinctly uneasy at this moment. This time, it hadn’t even come to the base of Green Mountain alone.

Far behind it trekked a white wolf of similar size but with softer lines, likely female. With her was a smaller white wolf, a fraction of her size.

Playing the family man!

“You may find more answers from the young wolf following you, rather than from me,” suggested the gentleman in green robes. He was calm and composed, but the trembling mountain beneath him was telling a different story.

From various other directions on the mountain came mythical creatures like a large snake as agile as a white dragon manoeuvring through the clouds and a ferocious beast with antlers, flapping its wings, casting horrifying shadows over the forest – all prominent demons on the mountain, seeking comfort from the Mountain god.

Yet apart from these demons, other beasts dwelling amidst these mountains weren’t doing anything out of ordinary. They may have noticed the large bodies of the demons soaring in the sky but only felt reverence and curiosity. They hadn’t sensed the changes beyond the mountains, and in this case, ignorance could also be a bliss.

The young wolf!

Standing before Green Mountain, the White Wolf Lord felt significantly more stable. But upon hearing the Mountain god’s words, a hint of anger flickered in his eyes.

When he was looking for his daughter, he had seen a young black wolf trying to court her again. To make matters worse, his daughter seemed to have no objections about the little wolf’s presence and was unusually intimate with the intruder.

Due to the pressing matters at hand, he hadn’t done anything to the young black wolf, but taking his daughter away in front of it, he set off for the Mountain god.

Only when the Mountain god mentioned the young black wolf did the White Wolf Lord realise that the brazen little thing had been following them the whole time.

“I am aware of only what happens within these mountains, so it might be more appropriate for you to ask him about what’s happening beyond them,” the Mountain god said. As he did so, he pointed a finger, and clouds began to churn. Suddenly, a black wolf, hiding in a mountain nook thinking it had blended perfectly into the darkness, was bound by cloud spirits and taken high above the sea of clouds to appear before the Mountain god.

“Such profound transformation at such a young age is commendable. You are much more fortunate than I was,” the Mountain god mused, admiring the newly transformed Black Mountain.

After all, Black Mountain had gone through its metamorphosis right within these mountains. Although the Mountain god had been asleep when it happened, as soon as he woke up, he knew everything that had occurred. In comparison to his past, Black Mountain was incredibly lucky. Nevertheless, the Mountain god’s mind was well-weathered by time, and such a situation wasn’t enough to undulate any ripples.

“A Ghost Wolf’s lineage!” exclaimed the White Wolf Lord. No matter how long he watched, Black Mountain still wasn’t quite to his liking. He couldn’t help but growl disdainfully.

Even though he knew he could no longer view Black Mountain as the lowly mountain wolf it once was, but as the potentially formidable Ghost Wolf, a creature that dared to covet his daughter would find no favor in his eyes.

The Mountain god, who was privy to everything, didn’t pay much attention to the White Wolf Lord’s display of distaste. His gentle gaze was fixed upon the slightly nervous and embarrassed Black Mountain, who he fully understood. Given a little time, the Wolf Lord would get used to the situation.

“Beyond the mountains?

Upon hearing the Mountain god’s question, Black Mountain seemed confused as its senses weren’t as sharp as the Great Demons’. It had no idea about the goings-on above Feng Family Hill.

“You don’t know, do you!”

The gentleman in green robes seemed a little disappointed, but he still pointed at Black Mountain’s forehead, projecting images of scenes beyond the mountains right into his mind.

As Black Mountain came to understand the circumstances beyond these mountains, its blue eyes grew wider. This all looked familiar. It had seen it before, but that had been in the Netherworld.

“You’ve seen it. It seems you know about it!”

The fluctuations in Black Mountain’s expressions weren’t lost on the Mountain god. What had seemed like disappointment in the god’s demeanor now gave way to a kind smile. “Could you tell me about it?”

Woof-

Black Mountain hesitated. Despite the Mountain god being quite munificent, that didn’t change the fact that the whole thing was probably related to its master. Through the Soul Contract, it could vaguely sense that its master was perhaps undergoing a transformation similar to the one it had witnessed before.

The perfect girl who gave it an uncomfortable feeling was probably protecting its transforming master in this way. Black Mountain, with this in mind, couldn’t possibly share this information with the Mountain god. Even if the Mountain god wouldn’t harm its master, it Imew what it should say and what it shouldn’t.

“You don’t want to say!”

The Mountain god sighed faintly, and the White Wolf Lord standing at his side wasn’t too pleased to witness Black Moun tain’s behaviour. After all, the Mountain god had gifted it with powerful abilities, which, in the terms of the human race, would make him an honorary teacher, akin to a father.

“There is no need for that!”

Upon noticing the White Wolf Lord’s intention to act, the Mountain god merely met his eyes, and the Wolf Lord obediently seated himself again. He didn’t dare defy the Mountain god’s intention.

“It seems that this matter is related to your master. Though, I do not wish to pry into your master’s secrets. I just want to know if this will affect the mountain.” The Mountain god’s warm voice queried, his tone full of the wisdom gained through a millennium.

Woof-

Black Mountain hesitated for a moment and then shook its head vigorously in response. Absolutely not!

“That’s good then!”

The Mountain god nodded slightly and trusted Black Mountain’s word. The shaking of Green Mountain ceased, and peace returned. The heartbeat-like sound was finally silenced.

Yet, at the boundaries of Green Python Mountain, another figure of a gentleman in green robes quietly emerged. His gaze was fixed on the Purple Light Forest that extended far into the sky, blocking out the stars and the moon. His eyes bore a look of solemnity, yet they sparkled with anticipation.

“A celestial artifact, perhaps?”

The Mountain god was confident that the unusual spectacle before him was due to the activation of a special artifact. He had never encountered an artifact capable of creating such an imposing scene; this was indeed his first experience of such caliber.

Due to the path he had chosen – to only observe, protect, and guard the mountains – he had never left the mountains despite the passing of a thousand years. Although he was aware of the vastness of the world, there were still many things he had never seen.

“This is truly remarkable!”

The Mountain god wasn’t sure whether the spectacular changes were due to a celestial artifact being reawakened and demonstrating its mighty power. He had never seen a genuine celestial artifact before and so he had nothing to compare with.

However, he was sure of one thing. This transformation was unlikely to affect the mountains. As a Mountain god, he didn’t need to intervene. He simply had to observe quietly.

With the night breeze, the figure of the gentleman in green robes began to fade away, and in the distant village shrouded by a painting-like scene, a young man, dripping with sweat, opened his eyes. He let out a sigh of relief, and a radiant smile spread across his face..
