Vol. 3 - Chapter 7 - The first class meeting
The site itself was huge but the wooden hut where only a few people could accommodate was damaged in many places, weeds growing underfoot and even inside the building. The surrounding trees blocked the sunlight all the time, making the place dim. If I had to describe this place in one word, it would be a haunted house.
However you say it, this was not a place where a person could live. I couldn’t teach in this place either. This is a good opportunity. I\'d give them a lecture on some basic life magic, such as earth magic, and let them build their own classroom.
"You are all present here. Nice to meet you! I\'m your instructor, Sirabe Ines Navarro. Well, let\'s get along."
I said to the four men and women in front of me, who were staring at me with a questionable face.
"You are surprisingly short in contrast to your rugged voice. Are you a gnome from the elf race I have heard rumors about?"
A red-haired young boy with awfully bad eyes approached me, putting his hands in his pockets and giving me a rude stare and words.
"I wonder."
This young boy is Pluto Brauser. The biological son of Lampert Brauser whom I had exorcized in the undead incident.
According to Sieg’s information, he is a very serious person in contrast to his appearance but he was also fatally lacking in magic power and had no power in offensive magic. The person himself was aware of this so he mainly acquired close combat magic but because of his weak constitution, he was even defeated by girls. In the end, the results in the examination just kept getting down and down. And finally, this time he was now in Class G.
It was that kind of situation but from the analysis, his magic power was E. It should have been the highest magical power in the Magic Academy but......
"Hmm-"
Pushing Pluto aside , Teresa approached me and snorted.
"Wh, what?"
Even I was perplexed by her eccentric behavior.
"You, where did I have......"
She stared and muttered something. She looked like a feral child. She probably was comparing the smell from her memories, but if not for me having changed my voice, I was sure I would have been found out. I had just narrowly escaped death.
Teresa had a high level of battle skills and physical abilities but her magic power wasn\'t good at all. Since she couldn\'t even use body strengthening magic, her result in the regular examination was poor and now here she was, dropped to Class G.
Although that was public knowledge, she had an average physical ability of E-. There was no way she could lose in practical training. Perhaps the fact that she was the daughter of Count Hartwig, a powerful local family, was also a factor.
"Who knows, I don\'t know you, though."
"Umm, but I remember this sweet, disgusting feeling......"
Without minding Teresa, who had completely entered her own world, a blonde little girl came in front of me.
"I want you to start the class soon."
And that was what she requested.
This was the same girl who was sitting next to me when I took the entrance exam, and I had a fate with her as well.
Mia Cyrus - the niece of Lord Cyrus. She possessed a considerable amount of magic power, had good overall grades, and was originally a Class S student, but due to the downfall of Lord Cyrus, she was sent away by the professors of the aristocratic faction of the school. That was the kind of bad luck she had.
According to the information, there were intricate circumstances that prevented her from being expelled from this academy. My actions were one of the factors for her being sent to Class G. I had to take responsibility for that.
"That\'s right! If we guys don\'t pass the regular examination, we will be expelled. There will not be anything left."
Cliff Millard echoed Mia\'s words.
My stepbrother. When he first entered the school, he was a promising newcomer, but an incident caused him to lose control of his magic, and since then he had been unable to use it properly. He must be having a lot of trouble, judging by his emaciation condition.
"Then just as you wish, let\'s talk about the class."
Cutting my words shortly, I looked at Mia and others and continued.
"My class is assignment-based and you will have to complete a number of them."
"Assignment?"
Mia tilted her head in puzzlement.
"Yes, they are quite difficult, but if you can complete them all, I promise you that you will pass your regular examination with ease."
"Hmph, you seem to have a lot of confidence."
"It\'s not confidence but just a mere fact. In the first place, passing the regular examination? I will never say something so tepid immediately."
That was the fact. As long as I had taken the role of instructor, they would pass the regular examination. I basically hated compromises. As Cliff gulped and cleared his throat, Pluto frowned and spat on the ground in disgust. Teresa was still in her own world and Mia just looked at me sleepily.
"Now, for the first mission. Build a classroom here with your own hands. You have until 8 a.m. on May 11th, seven days from now. I won\'t wait a minute or a second longer than that, so be prepared for that."
"What? Constructing a classroom!?"
Pluto shouted hysterically.
"That\'s right."
I nodded and answered immediately.
"Don\'t joke around! I am the next head of the Millard family and a member of the noble society. Why must I imitate the commoner style like a carpenter!? I want you to hurry up and start teaching!"
Cliff shouted in reproach. Teresa turned away uncomfortably at Cliff\'s words, but Mia waited for my words without changing her expression.
"The mission is building a classroom. That\'s part of the lesson. I don\'t care even if you quit immediately if you don\'t like it."
"Dammit!"
Cliff swore in frustration.
"It\'s not like I have the intention to belittle the work of a carpenter. I\'m a commoner, different from the Noble-sama there. I understand it\'s an important job which can\'t be completed in a short time. But we are aiming to be knights in the imperial army. If we imitate such carpenters, we won\'t learn much and it will be disrespectful to the profession. Isn\'t that right?"
Pluto appeared to be quick-witted but didn\'t use his precious talents for this kind of trifling matter. It was really a waste of talent.
"I also think so."
"Yeah."
Yes, yes, Teresa nodded loudly, and Mia gave a small nod.
Teresa didn\'t flaunt her nobility but she also didn\'t want to do carpentry work. Mia wanted the class to get started as soon as possible. This was that kind of situation.
Really, what a wishy-washy person because of her nature.
"Don\'t underestimate it. I know you guys can\'t imitate the carpentry work from the beginning no matter how much you try. I\'m just saying that you should build your own place to learn."
"That\'s why we can\'t d—"
Ignoring all the rebuttal from Pluto and the others, when I invoked the [Wind Manipulation] on top of the tattered building, the roof was crushed in an instant. If the wind blew, the building would collapse. It had survived this far with this meager strength. I wondered if it was protected from the strong winds by the overgrown trees.
Anyway, it seemed that insects had sprung up and the building was completely rotten. There was no way I could teach in such a place.
"I helped you guys with demolishing it. Now the rest is for you guys to do."
With Pluto and the others staring at me with wide eyes, I took out a blackboard and chalk from the item box, specially made by Sagami Shokai. I had the technology department make them for the outdoor class.
"Whoa!!!"
Pluto immediately jumped around behind, seeing the blackboard that appeared out of nowhere suddenly.
"Whoa!"
In response, Teresa approached the blackboard with a shout of joy and a glint of curiosity in her eyes.
Mia as expected was staring at the blackboard with sleepy eyes, not moving an eyebrow, while Cliff\'s cheeks were twitching.
As they showed their three very different forms...
"Now, let\'s start the class for the preparation of Class G building."
I took the chalk and started the class.
