Chapter 192: Regretting Those Words Deeply

Chapter 192: Regretting Those Words Deeply

Qian Meng received a call shortly after she finished work from Li Jun.

"Tell me. Is there any progress on the investigation?" Qian Meng asked. She knew there would be nothing new, but she could hope.

Li Jun coughed. "Actually, there is." Qian Meng gasped in response. "I am as surprised as you are, actually. I called them to find out what was going on right after our call this afternoon and they told me they didn\'t have enough manpower to look into it."

"But then they changed their tune?" she asked, dumbfounded.

"It seems so. I received a call from the prosecutor. They already got a court order to track and surveil Bai Ye Qing. Moreover, they are investigating deeply into the case. I think they assigned three or four exclusive investigators on the matter, too."

Qian Meng could hear the surprise in his voice. "What changed their mind about the urgency of the issue? Did you find out?" she asked. She had an idea that it was someone Bai Ye Qing had messed with before.

"It seems it was a minister who asked in a favor."

Qian Meng blinked at the answer. "Minister? Which one?"

"It\'s Mr. Mo\'s distant relative. The minister in the opposition, Miss Yun," Li Jun said lightly.

Qian Meng laughed in surprise. "Is that so?" she said softly. "Okay. If they tell you anything new, keep me in the loop." She paused. "I have another call to make. I\'ll talk to you later."

She was sitting in her office and the door opened just a crack. She saw Mo Qingchen peer in and smiled wide.

"You hurried up the investigation?" she said sweetly.

He had to thought about his answer for a second. "You don\'t need to thank me. I am making sure your body and mind are safe. He should be put in jail soon. He is a threat to society," he said seriously.

Qian Meng nodded as she got up from her desk. She scooped up her things and packed them before trotting to him. "As you told me not to thank you, I\'ll just show you my gratitude."

With her bag still slung over her shoulder, she pressed him against the door and pressed a quick kiss on his lips. "That should do," she said happily.

Mo Qingchen looked down at her with his dark eyes. "Your gratitude is really small," he commented. The conversation was dropped. It was time to go home.

Qian Meng was putting on moisturizer on her hands when Mo Qingchen popped the question. "Where do you want to go on the honeymoon?"

"Wait, we\'re actually going on a honeymoon? I thought we were just going to stay home or something," Qian Meng admitted as she looked at him from over her shoulder.

"Yes. Why wouldn\'t be?" Mo Qingchen looked offended.

"I mean… we rarely get time off from work and you want to spend it on a plane?" she asked, her nose scrunched up in confusion.

"It would raise a lot of questions if we didn\'t go on a honeymoon. I know that my family would definitely find it strange, not to mention everyone else. You will be announcing the wedding and people will look forward to some honeymoon pictures," Mo Qingchen told her slowly. He looked at her expression with acute interest, his voice slow enough that he could change his logic if he thought she wasn\'t convinced.

"I didn\'t think about it that way." What Mo Qingchen was saying made sense. She had forgotten the show they would have to put on for others.

"Besides, we could use a vacation. That is all it has to be to us. Just a vacation," he tested by saying.

"So, where will we go?" she asked, skipping like a bunny.

"Is there anywhere in the world you would want to see and haven\'t had the chance?" Mo Qingchen asked seriously. She blinked.

"I would love to go to a lot of places. But what is convenient for you?" Her eyes glowed with excitement. He saw her expression and tried to hide his smile.

"How about the Bora Bora islands? There is great food, good views and absolutely no one to pester us. You can run around wild and no one will say a thing." His eyes were keen as he waited for his response.

"The Bora Boras?" She bit her lip. "I would love that." She tried not to jump on him in happiness. She had only ever traveled for business, never having the time to explore the places she visited or tasting their cuisine.

He chuckled, seemingly amused by her enthusiasm. "We will go to your house tomorrow, right? Are you nervous about confronting your father?"

Qian Meng shifted in her chair and shrugged.

"I guess I am a little nervous. I am not sure what plots he has up his sleeves. He has an uncanny ability to pester people until they are so tired they give in," she mumbled.

Mo Qingchen furrowed his brow. "He likes tiring the enemy before attacking them. But his methods are crude. Exhausting the enemy is an art and he shows his cards too early. Don\'t worry. I\'ll be right there beside you." H smirked at her cockily. "I have a knack for making impressions, don\'t you know?"

Qian Meng shrugged and looked down to examine her fingernail, annoyed with his pompousness. She was unwilling to feed his ego. "You didn\'t exactly impress me when we first met. So, I suppose you will do," she said with a slight roll of her eye.

He laughed softly and got up, casually walking to her, and pausing right in front of where she sat.

"The first time you saw me? You told me you would marry me someday," he said, bumping his leg against her knee playfully. "Look. You succeeded."

She smiled and looked up at him. The smile on her face was sarcastic. "Ah, yes. I regretted those words deeply. All I said was I would marry you and you took it to heart."
