As the three commanders were discussing amongst themselves, Jiang Fei sneaked past them and came to the Saint of the Light.
“Unknown Explorer, I know that you are a member of the Nephilim race, but my heart tells me that you are not like the enemies. You are not evil. The war between the Light and the Shadow is cruel but the flames of war must never reach the people. Would you help me?” asked the Saint as quietly as she could.
“Ding! The Saint of the Light has a Legendary Hidden Quest for you, Rescue the Civilians. Will you accept it?”
“Your Highness, I agree with what you said. War is blind yet the innocent should never be involved,” said Jiang Fei as he accepted the quest. Even though the quest looked tough, if he could complete it, the reward should be just as good.
“I thank you very much, kind stranger!” said the Saint as she handed over a letter and a bracelet.
“This is neither the time nor the place to talk. Everything you need to know is in that letter. I’m counting on you to save the lives of my people!” said the Saint as she frequently turned around to check on the three commanders.
“I will give it my all,” said Jiang Fei after he had received the quest item.
Once he was sure there was no one around, Jiang Fei opened the letter and read it.
“Ding! Quest Updated!”
The contents of the letter were really short. All it said was to bring the bracelet to a certain place. There, a company of guards would be waiting for him. Using the bracelet as proof, Jiang Fei would be able to take the commander role of the Saint’s Guards.
After that, all Jiang Fei needed to do was to lead the company and help the Light Faction to safely escort all 10,000 civilians to safety. The reward was 50,000,000 experiences points, 2,000 gold coins, and one unspecified equipment.
Even though Isabella was not happy that Jiang Fei had gone behind her back and accepted the quest to help the Saint, she did not adamantly reject the idea to save the civilians as she was kind under all that facade.
Quest Name: Materials for War 2
Quest Description: The decisive battle is nigh and the Demon Fortress requires a large amount of Felsteel Bar to make weapons. Your mission is to use any means necessary to collect 10,000 Felsteel Bars.
Quest Reward: 15,000,000 Experience Points, 1,000 Gold Coins. 2,000 Honor Points.
Alas, the second subsequent quest was much harder than the first one. Thankfully, the rewards were also scaled to its difficulty.
Felsteel Bar was a material used to make weapons and heavy armor of Level 60 and higher. It was a material that players would find and refine by themselves. They could also be bought from neutral stance NPC merchants. However, Felsteel Ores were the products of Faction Map and could never be found in any of the main city regions. Right now, the general public was unable to access the Faction map since they were all underleveled. Buying Felsteel Bars from players was out of the option.
Besides buying, there were two other ways. One was to buy from the neutral NPC merchant and the last option was to go to the Light Faction area and rob them. To buy that sort of item from an NPC merchant would require a considerable amount of Reputation level. To be precise, Jiang Fei would have to have Respect level of Reputation or higher of not that merchant but the entire Faction’s Reputation. Being a Nephilim of the Shadow Faction, there was no way Jiang Fei could complete that requirement in a short time.
As for robbing the Light Faction, it was a doable action but a much harder one. Jiang Fei had attacked the Light Faction once and helped Heinz to capture and kidnap the Saint of the Light. However, Jiang Fei had only helped break the first defense of the town. The real perpetrators were the soldiers and Heinz of the Shadow Faction. To have Jiang Fei to go in and rob them alone would be akin to throwing an egg to a stone. There was no way Jiang Fei and Isabella could destroy any given town’s defenses.
“Hmm?” Jiang Fei scratched his chin and thought of something brilliant.
The quest that he had obtained from the Saint of the Light was to rescue the civilians of the Light Faction. That must include the blacksmiths! In the midst of the chaos, Jiang Fei could surely be able to take all the Felsteel Bars he wanted! Two birds with one stone!
With that thought in mind, Jiang Fei started to plan. The Saint of the Light had only asked him to save the civilians, not their property nor their belongings. Hence, all he had to do was to ensure the civilians get away safely. He could then claim all their leftover items in the town as compensation for saving their lives!
There might be chances that the civilians would take their precious belongings with them as they escape. However, since Jiang Fei was their soon-to-be commander, he could pester the civilians to move as fast as they could with the Saint’s Guards’ help. They might take their gold and silver but not heavy metals such as the Felsteel Bars. Not only would Jiang Fei be able to complete the Saint of the Light’s Hidden Quest, he would also be completing Ivan’s quest!
After his plan was devised, Jiang Fei took off into the air and flew toward the location where the Saint had indicated in her letter.
“Something’s coming! All hands, get ready for combat!” cried one of the guards as she spotted Jiang Fei high in the sky.
“Who is it? Stay frosty girls!” cried another guard as Jiang Fei landed.
“A Demon!”
“Kill them!” cried the leading NPC guard as she charged towards Jiang Fei with her sword in hand.
“Woah there!” Even though Jiang Fei had the Saint’s bracelet, the guards still attacked Jiang Fei without giving him a chance to explain his situation.
“Die Demon!” cried the leading NPC guards as she was about to land a slash on Jiang Fei.
“Huh?”
As soon as she was close enough to Jiang Fei, her status turned from red to green, indicating that Jiang Fei and she were now in a Friendly Reputation status. Jiang Fei’s Romeo title effect was in play and the female NPC lowered her sword.
“Who are you?” asked the female NPC.
“I am an envoy sent my the Saint of the Light. Take this. These are the bracelet and the letter of the Saint,” said Jiang Fei as he handed over the items that the Saint had given to him.
“I understand the situation now. My apologies, sir envoy. I am the Commander of the Saint’s Guard company, Hua Mulan,” said the NPC as she kneeled down to Jiang Fei.
“Urgh…” Jiang Fei cringed. He had no idea who was the designer of this NPC but naming her as Hua Mulan was a little derivative and lazy, to be honest. Even so, this female commander had definitely lived up to the name Mulan as she was strong. She was a Level 89 Higher Lord tier NPC. She was only one level away from being a Lesser Overlord at Level 90. Looked like the Luminous Church had spared no man behind in order to protect the Saint of the Light. However, since the Saint was meditating in the Moonlight Church, she was without her personal guards. That was the reason why Jiang Fei and the Shadow Faction were able to capture the Saint.
Mulan then revealed the identity to the entire female guards present and explained the situation to them. At the very least, they would not attack Jiang Fei any longer, they could not do it anyway because of Romeo.
Jiang Fei examined the company for a bit and found that two-thirds of the Saint’s Guards was made up of females. Of course, they were immediately “charmed” by Jiang Fei and became “Friendly” with him. The rest of the male guards were not as easily persuaded by Mulan as their name tags were still pinkish red. Even though they did not attack Jiang Fei, they would not recognize him as an ally.
