Chapter 65 - The Beast Repellent Powder

"Well, if possible I kind of want to meet this person. I want to know what exactly happened inside the cave and how they were able to collect that many in a short period of time."

"Anyways, this is my improved version of the Beast Repellent Powder." She took a piece of paper from the stacks beside the Red Cave Rocks before handing it to Joana.

Joana observed it and after seeing the list, she could not help but ask. "Does this work like the previous one?"

"Well, the two serve the same purpose, but with this new recipe that I came up with, I think the effects are at least double than before. And with the addition of the Red Hermit Eyes that has the property of calming monsters, I think this upcoming Beast Tide will be as easy as eating a pie." Carmen declared with confidence in her voice.

"If you say so! But how much will a bottle of this cost?"

"The previous one cost 2 Gold Coins per cup of Beast Repellent powder. However, this time, I\'ll sell it for 5 Gold Coins instead."

Joana nodded her head thinking that it was reasonable considering the cost of the materials used on making the powder.

The two were talking but the Ban and George could only stare at them silently, not knowing what was happening around them.

"How do you use the Beast Repellent powder?" George could not endure his curiosity anymore as he inquired.

"Oh... I just recalled that you were just a mere kid of twelve years old when the Beast Tide happened five years ago so you probably don\'t know about it." Joana nodded her head, thinking that it was only reasonable that he doesn\'t know about the Beast Repellent powder that Carmen had invented five years ago.

At first, she does not have any intention to explain it to George, but when she recalled Mr. Leon, who most likely had just arrived in the city might also know nothing about it, so she decided to explain it to them in the end.

"As you may have already known, Eagle City has always been surrounded by dense Beast-Filled Forests, like the forest of Lagom at the Northern side of the city since the ancestors built this place."

"Every ten years, the Guardian Beast of the Beast-Filled Forest Lagom, will try to attack the city. The intention was unclear, however, there were various speculations that the Guardian did it to dwindle and balance the number of Beasts that existed in the Lagom forest at the same time."

"Fortunately, as far as I know, the other Beast-Filled forest doesn\'t have the same phenomenon, so we can focus our attention on the Beast-Filled forest Lagom."

"The city had already come up with various ideas to try and stop the Beast Tide from occurring, but no matter what method was used, the Beast Tide would still occur. Hence the reason why the city or more precisely the ruling person of the city would always choose to defend the city from the Beast Tide."

"Every ten years, everyone would already expect to receive many casualties, especially on the infrastructures as the crazy Beasts would not stop at anything and slam everything that blocks their path."

"However, that all changed five years ago when my friend here discovered the Beast Repellent powder. One only needs to spread it on any infrastructures or buildings and the Beasts would always avoid it. Of course, nothing can be done about those buildings that were damaged due to fighting, but the Beast Repellent powder at least lowered the casualties of buildings by almost half."

"However, there\'s a fatal weakness to it. The Beast Repellent powder could only be applied to non-moving things. It would immediately lose its effect the moment it was put on moving objects- for example, a person."

"They also used it to scatter around the building that was used as the Non-Adventurers hideout and it was very successful, to be honest."

"If only they did not monopolize the Beast Repellent powder market, we could have saved more buildings and humans in the process- Sigh!" Joana released a dejected sigh.

"Well, it\'s already in the past. I won\'t let it happen again this time around." Carmen stated confidently.

She then recalled some rumors about the Beast Tide so she also decided to share it to them. "I heard a strange rumor though. According to that rumor, it was true that a Beast Tide of the Lagom Forest would only occur once every ten years. However, there\'s an exemption to that.

Supposedly, it was recorded in a book that every time a \'freak\' or someone who cannot summon a monster appears, a Beast Tide will always occur the same year or the following year after that, no matter if it\'s already ten years or not."

Joana stayed silent for a moment before she continued, "The book said that the Beast Tide is a kind of tribulation arranged to eliminate the \'freak\' as soon as possible before it can cause more damage to the world."

"Chii- I\'ve been to the neighboring cities and I saw a \'freak\' living there comfortably without being scorn by the city\'s Adventurers.

If what you said is true, then that city should have also gotten a Beast Tide already or something to eliminate that \'freak\'. As far as I know, it was only the Eagle City that doesn\'t let any \'freak\' in. I don\'t know the root of their hatred for those who are unable to summon any Monster, it\'s not that they wanted their fate to be like that.

What you said might actually be true, a dozen years back, but after confirming that the freaks are not the real reason for the Beast Tide, they should have already abandoned their scorn to them that instant. And besides it should have also occurred back then if that was the case.

There was also no news about someone being unable to summon a Monster this time and yet, there\'s still an upcoming Beast Tide that might attack in a week." Joana ranted with a trembling voice.

One could feel the anger on her voice, but no one around said anything as they knew that what she just said was also reasonable.

Especially Ban who was already sweating bullets after knowing that he might really be the real reason for the sudden occurrence of the Beast Tide this time around.
