Chapter 43 Real Life (5)
"Enough," Jake said. "We will fight on the defending side and that is it."
Lana and Louise sighed. While some people would feel unsatisfied by that result, they weren\'t since whatever happens, the strength of the party would increase anyway. Not to mention, they forced Jake to solve the issue, making him get closer to them.
"Because the attacking side probably has more enemies or at least a stronger army," Jake added.
Lana and Louise sighed again because things were never simple with Jake. Regardless, they went to check things with Luke, but in the end, the girls only bought some extra potions since they had no idea for how long that mission will last. While the girls were a bit scared of that, it also made them feel excited as well. Without any more delay, Jake accepted the mission
After being teleported, they found themselves standing in the middle of a village and on what seemed to be a magic circle. Jake looked around quickly and then found some odd-looking NPCs wearing mages\' robs and carrying wands with them. They were the orcs and they were essentially humanoid pigs. However, they had a yellow fun and all their eyes were brown.
"Oh, brave heroes… thank you for answering our call," One of the orcs said.
"So, in this mission, we are summoned heroes," Lana said while smirking. "Interesting…"
"Even you know about isekai, huh…" Jake slightly frowned. "Anyway, we are here, what do you want us to do?"
Jake asked while looking around, the houses were fairly simple, but quite big and organized considering that they had been built by orcs. Most buildings were made of new wood, but some even had been made using earth magic, at least that was what Jake told. Putting the design of the village aside, Jake could see orcs coming and going frantically. Some were armed and ready to fight while others were carrying supplies and tools.
"My name is Grommok, and I am the elder of this village," An orc that more looked like a shaman than a proper mage due to the amulets and rings he was wearing stepped forward said and said. "We humbly ask you for your assistance in this war. The kobolds have been attacking us for the last few months and we are on the brink of extinction. Many villages had already been destroyed and we lost almost sixty percent of our forces. We don\'t have much time left with so little personal and after losing so much terrain."
"So, you want us to fight without a clear strategy in mind?" Jake asked. "I should have known."
The mission was making them look like summoned heroes of legends that appears to save a kingdom, but while that setting was a bit forced, Jake knew he couldn\'t expect much from the NPCs. Rather than that, it seemed that they had been programmed to trust everything in the hands of Jake\'s group.
Grommok – Orc Lv 19
Health: 50/50
Mana: 280/280
Stamina: 35/35
It was hard to say considering that alone, but soon Jake confirmed that the average mage-orc had half of that amount of mana. As for the warriors, they had as much health as him, but they had too little mana and about half of the stamina. He was expecting to face some creatures at the level of the Giant Bats, but then Jake realized that they were going to be as strong as the Hard Scorpions…
"When the next fight will take place? And where?" Jake asked.
"Some of our forces already engaged with the enemy, they are trying to buy us time while we prepare the last villages to withstand the battle when it approaches," Grommok replied.
Jake looked around and he saw some smoke curtains rising to the sky in the distance. Most likely, the enemy will arrive in less than one hour. In that same direction, he also found a group of one hundred or so orcs ready to fight. The terrain wasn\'t the best since it was some grasslands that had many hills and obstacles like trees and rocks, but that also could be considered some defensive measures.
"All right, let\'s get going then," Jake said.
The party headed toward the exit of the village and the orcs that summoned them also followed. It seemed that they would participate in the battle as well, but Jake assumed that they wouldn\'t be of much help. The orc warriors frowned when they saw the newcomers. They didn\'t look particularly, reliable, after all.
"Is this fine?" Louise asked. "I thought we would have to do more in this mission instead of just fighting single-mindedly."
"In a war?" Jake frowned.
"What I mean is, prepare a strategy, command the troops, and make sure that we have laid some traps to the enemy…" Louise explained.
"You sure are taking this seriously…" Jake said. "Still, if you think you can command the orcs here, then feel free to do so, I won\'t have time to worry about that in the frontlines."
"Just try not to go too far from here, otherwise, I won\'t be able to heal you," Lana said.
"Maybe this time you should focus on healing the orcs, their numbers will impact the battlefield quite a bit," Jake said. "If the enemies think that we are losing, they will gain momentum, but the inverse is also true."
Jake could heal himself with Lesser Vampirism, if he focuses on speed and while fighting with his katana and scabbard, he probably won\'t have to worry about his health since he will regen around ten points of health per second thanks to attack basics alone. Nevertheless, Louise listened to Jake and then tried to talk with the mages and some big orcs about if they could follow her command. It was hard to imagine Louise having any knowledge regarding war tactics, but she probably read a few books about related topics and wanted to apply them there.
Meanwhile, Jake waited patiently for the battle and half an hour later, he could see a horde of kobolds marching toward that village and many others in the region.
