Chapter 168 Underestimation (3)
Turning around with that lance in hand was impossible, so Jake threw one of his shurikens toward the monster. However, the creature had the nerve to block the attack with a Fireball. Jake frowned and then threw two at the same time from different angles. The monster repelled another again, but it wasn\'t so fast to block the second.
"I will have to deal with one of those from behind every one hundred seconds, so I can\'t drop my guard and I need to think of another way to increase my hunting speed," Jake thought.
Jake already had the tools necessary for that. He just needed the right environment. He created that by stepping toward the dungeon\'s exit a bit more, and when the monsters tried to use Fireballs, he used Sonic Blows. Even without putting much strength behind it, the skill and the weight of the spear impaled the head of one of the monsters with ease. Jake used that several times, and he easily cleared the monsters that were trying to enter the dungeon. Still, that left his right arm a bit tired… it was no wonder, given that it was a weapon used for single strikes while one was in a mount.
After taking a few steps backward to catch a break, Jake saw some more monsters trying to enter the dungeon. He knew that the fight would last for a while, but he didn\'t imagine that it would be like that… that intense.
"You have got numbers, and I have potions!" Jake said and then began to drink several mana potions.
Jake focused on using Mana Blades whenever the monsters were stupid enough to make a line trying to enter the dungeon. He could understand that they wanted to protect the core no matter what, but there were even smart ways of being stupid. Regardless, eventually, the number of corpses in front of the dungeon began to get in the way of the crows, so they worked together to move those away.
In the meantime, Jake had some time to rest, but he used that chance to do something else. After having a certain idea, Jake moved away from the entrance. It was a pity that he soon found that the tunnel turned to the side, but eighty meters of a straight line would do the job. He waited there with his sword in hand and with the lance on the ground without doing anything.
The monsters saw him just waiting to be attacked, and they got greedy enough not to use their long ranged spells. They wanted to overwhelm him with sheer numbers… Jake could only smirk at their stupidity. When dozens of them had entered the dungeon, and the first few were about to attack Jake, he used Concentrated Strike… he had been charging an attack this entire time, and he hit the butt of the lance.
Like a cannonball, the weapon flew toward the crows while impaling almost all of them to death. It hurt Jake\'s hands quite a bit, but it hurt even more on the monsters that almost exploded due to the sheer power of his attack. The weapon almost continued to fly after killing fifty or crows…
"Don\'t be hasty, stand in line, your turns will come as well," Jake said as he approached the entrance with his freezing longsword.
While the crows were shocked due to his previous attack, Jake left the dungeon for a bit to kill as many of them as possible before returning. That was relatively easy since they weren\'t flying, after all. Using the piles of corpses around, Jake dodged and avoided most of their long ranged attacks. While doing that and decreasing their numbers, Jake recovered his lance and then slowly returned to the dungeon.
At that point in time, it was hard to imagine Jake losing, and he didn\'t, he kept his focus for two more hours, and then he eventually could only see that that part of the desert had turned red with the blood of the monsters. Jake hadn\'t imagined that things would end up in any other way. That was why Pride Incarnate helped him so much. Still, he didn\'t imagine that he would wear himself out that much, he was more than a little bit tired, and he still had a lot more to do before challenging the boss of the dungeon.
"Well… let\'s start gathering the loot and checking my status before the fight," Jake thought.

As expected, Jake made a lot of progress in the last three days. Still, he felt that his innate skills were taking longer than before to level up, considering the situation. Perhaps it was because, in the spur of the moment, he only used them when he was truly in danger… if his physical skills alone were enough for the job, he didn\'t feel the need to make things easier for him. Regardless, he had to find a way to make those levels up as steadly as before... even if that were to become a bit dangerous for himself.
