Chapter 262 Thunderstorm (4)
While Jake was grinding and fighting against the electric avians, Louise\'s group was returning home after completing the undead trents\' dungeon. They were a bit tired since the enemies were a bit troublesome with their skills. Usually, a large group would be necessary to deal with the boss and its skills, which caused a lot of damage in the area. Still, they managed to finish the big tree before it could explode. They had heard that the next mission would be difficult too because the mummies could use curses, and that kind of negative effect was really troublesome. Regardless, they won and they gained a lot of experience, so all of the problem that they had was worth it.
"Hah… I want to take a break," Lana said after letting a weird sound mixed with a sigh. "Do you guys want to return home for a bit? All this fighting is completely wearing me out."
"That sounds like a good idea, but things seem to be getting a bit… more darker around," Louise said while showing a complicated expression. I think that the guild master is about to tell us something big and that we should be prepared for it."
"The members of other guilds seem more tense as well… like they had been warned of something not too clear," Karina said.
"Do you think that mister Jake knows anything?" Julian asked.
"Mister Jake… that sounds so weird," Lana frowned. "Regardless, he didn\'t have a single bit since we came here. He is the same bloodthirsty, self-centered moron that he has always been. I don\'t think he knows anything… if he had heard anything weird, he probably would have said: so what?"
"You two really are like water and oil…" Karina said.
After they crossed the gates of the guild, the group noticed that everyone was gathering at the center of the place. The guards also warned them to stay for the guild master\'s announcement. Frederick was already ready, but it seemed that Luke wasn\'t around, and he always was when something important was about to be told by the leader of the guild. Naturally, that made them frown. After a couple more minutes, the remaining members of the guild arrived, and then Frederick started his announcement.
"Thank you for your hard work, as usual, everyone," Frederick said. "Today… I need to tell you something complicated. I will try to be clear as possible to avoid problems and panic, but first of all, you need to know that this kind of information can\'t be spread. Other guild masters and I learned something recently, and we decided to share it with you. Still, they will do it in their own way according to what is best for their guilds, so talking about it might create more problems than solve it."
Louise, Lana, Karina, and Julian looked at each other while frowning. The guild master sure was being weird… it wasn\'t like he didn\'t say difficult things before, but this time he was acting pretty suspiciously.
"In a few days, something will happen, something that we call the awakening," Frederick said. "All of you have innate skills. The guild masters have as well. Until now, we didn\'t understand why we had those. We assumed that it was because we had the potential or to help us pass the tutorial. However, that isn\'t the case… it seems that these innate skills are related to this universe. Apparently, this universe isn\'t the same as our own. That being said, we didn\'t have a link in this one, so we obtained one that granted our existence after passing the tutorial. It isn\'t something certain, but there is a chance that our bodies here belonged to our doppelgangers in this universe, and these skills belonged to them… there is a chance that our memories will merge with the memories sealed in these bodies."
When Frederick finished that, everyone looked speechless. Never mention the idea that a game could be connected to reality, but connected to another universe? That was simply insane… their avatars became their real bodies. Still, those real bodies belonged to their versions in another universe? That was hard to grasp as trying to understand the interior of a black hole. Frederick imagined that his guild members would panic, but they simply didn\'t know how to react to all that.
"Although there are many uncertain things about this, we are almost certain that this won\'t force us to become something else," Frederick said. "This body isn\'t only compatible with us, and they belonged to someone who was exactly like us. So, the chances that we are only going to obtain their knowledge without any drawbacks are pretty high. With that being said, there is no reason to panic."
Those managed to calm down and analyze those words. It was pretty clear that Frederick was just trying to do some damage control. He didn\'t explain everything, and he probably knew more, but that would only add uncertainty to the whole situation. Still, it was evident that getting those bodies\' memories wouldn\'t be so easy and convenient. Besides, some also wondered what happened to their bodies while they weren\'t on Earth. Those who managed to return once were even more confused since they couldn\'t use their powers, but time was still flowing there normally.
"Difficult times are ahead of us, but if we stay strong together, we will surpass these hard times," Frederick said. "For the time being, the groups of our guilds won\'t receive any orders, so feel free to use this chance to rest or do what you want without worries. That is all."
Frederick left the platform, and the people looked at each other without knowing what to do. That seemed like a terrible time to give them the free reins. Louise and the others didn\'t know what to do either, and things only got more complicated when Frederick approached them.
"We need to talk," Frederick said. "Touch my shoulders, and I will choose your next mission."
