Chapter 1015: Flattering

Chapter 1015: Flattering

“The surgery was very successful.” Doctor Qu followed the gurney out of the operating theater and nodded proudly and confidently at the patient’s family members.

With his experience, he could be said to have done this surgery very perfectly. The patient had enough blood supply, and he could guarantee that the patient could regain plenty of Achilles tendon strength. Even though the other party might need to rest for relatively long and it would be impossible for him to go through training and competitions that are as strenuous as Liu Weichen’s, it was basically good enough for a PE teacher.

These words were what the patients were waiting for the most. They thanked Doctor Qu non-stop when they heard that.

The patient’s older sister bent down to look at her younger brother, and she said with a smile on her face, “It’s great that the surgery had gone well. All that hard work didn’t go to waste.”

Her younger brother was conscious at that moment, but he looked a little glum as he laid on the gurney.

“What’s wrong? Are you feeling any discomfort?” his older sister immediately asked as she noticed his glum expression.

Her younger brother forced a smile. “Not really.”

“Just say whatever you’re feeling.” His elder sister thought, ‘If you don’t say anything you have to say while the doctor’s here, are you going to wait until tomorrow or the day after tomorrow to speak?’

Her younger brother pursed his lips in resignation. He looked like he wanted to say something, but there was something holding him back.

“Hey, you’re making me anxious. What’s wrong? Did your ureter drop out?” The elder sister believed that her younger brother was hesitant due to embarrassment.

“I’m not using a ureter.” Her younger brother sighed in resignation and said, “I was conscious during the surgery, and I heard Doctor Qu calling someone else for help non-stop while he operated on me.”

The moment he said that, his older sister was utterly shocked. She almost jumped to her feet as she questioned Doctor Qu, “Why are you operating on someone if you don’t know how to do it?”

There were a lot of people in the waiting area, to begin with. Many of them were bored and anxious, and when they heard something so interesting going on, they immediately crowded around Doctor Qu.

Doctor Qu was not considered a talented doctor, but he was an attending physician in the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center. He had more than ten years of experience dealing with patients’ family members.

There was a calm expression on Doctor Qu’s face, and he was level-headed as he gazed at the pair of siblings and the onlooking crowd. “First of all, not only do I know how to operate on patients, but I’m also very good at it. Second of all, I performed this surgery very meticulously and earnestly. And last but not least, like what I had said just now, the surgery is a very successful one.”

Doctor Qu came out with three points to defend himself, and the onlooking crowd suddenly felt that things were not as interesting as they had thought.

The patient’s sister froze too. Actually, this was no rocket science. Private clinics charged quite a lot of money for their services, and there was no need for them to hire a doctor who did not know how to operate on patients after receiving so much money.

In this time and age, it was probably more expensive to hire an actor compared to an excellent doctor.

Aside from that, the most important thing was that the surgery was a successful one. If surgery went successfully, other people would not make a valid point even if they were to point out problems.

“Then what about what my younger brother said?” The patient’s elder sister bent down and asked her younger brother a few questions. She then continued, “What did he mean when he said you called someone else non-stop to ask for help during the surgery?”

“It’s because Doctor Ling is here.” Even though Doctor Qu’s expression was dark, he was feeling happier and happier.

The thing he was the most afraid of right now was that Ling Ran would set him up using his power and influence after the surgery.

Doctor Qu believed that doctors like Ling Ran were the hardest to decipher.

Skillful doctors had always been very powerful and had great control over things. In fact, their influence extended to other hospitals. A doctor whose career was largely limited by the hospital he was in would have skillful and powerful doctors imposing various limitations on him if he were not careful.

Hence, throughout the surgery, Doctor Qu was plagued by one question: how should he flatter Ling Ran the right way?

Giving him calls to ask him about the surgery was one of the methods that Doctor Qu had thought of. But he did not know whether that was enough to ensure his survival in the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center.

Doctor Qu felt that it was really dangerous to deal with a skillful and powerful doctor.

It would be way too easy for Ling Ran to set him up, and he was not sure about what was on the other party’s mind.

Fortunately, the patient’s family members gave Doctor Qu another chance to flatter Ling Ran.

Before the patient’s older sister could make any further inquiries, Doctor Qu loudly said, “I’ve already explained this before the surgery. Doctor Ling was the one who invented the Zhu-Ling Achilles Repair Technique that was used on the patient. Truth be told, Doctor Ling could be said to be the number one doctor in the country when it comes to Achilles tendon repairs. Since he happened to be here when I was using the surgical method he invented, is it not a given for me to ask for his guidance? This is also a way for me to show how dedicated I am at treating the patient, isn’t it?”

As Doctor Qu spoke, his tone became more and more solemn, and he emanated a domineering aura.

The patient’s older sister widened her eyes. ‘What the heck is going on?’

The onlooking crowd started whispering to each other.

“Since when is there such an excellent doctor in Wuxin?”

“Stop making a fool of yourself. That doctor is from Yun Hua. He’s very famous in Yun Hua Hospital.”

“How do you know that?”

“My brother-in-law received hepatectomy at Yun Hua Hospital, and this doctor is considered a renowned one in the country. Even though he looks extremely young, it’s very hard to get a consultation slot with him. I only managed to get my brother-in-law a consultation slot with him in Wuxin City through connections. I heard that scalpers are selling tickets for consultation slots with this doctor for more than 1,000 RMB…”

“No, wait. Why do you sound so happy even though you have a brother-in-law who’s receiving hepatectomy…? Oh…”

The pair of siblings found themselves unable to wrap their minds over this entire matter as they listened to the people around them speak.

The patient’s elder sister tried her best to focus. She then looked at Doctor Qu and said, “There’s a loophole in your story!”

“What?” Doctor Qu looked at the patient’s elder sister. ‘Are we filming a detective series now?’

“You said that you’re a skillful doctor. Then, why do you have to ask for guidance? This doesn’t make sense. Moreover, you said that your surgery was done very well… Since you can do it so well, there’s no need for you to ask for guidance from another young doctor, isn’t it?” The patient’s older sister insisted on her own point of view.

“Under normal circumstances, of course not.” Doctor Qu nodded and continued, “But Doctor Ling’s skills… Let me put it this way. In the context of our country’s field of orthopedics, although I’m considered pretty good, Doctor Ling is the number one in our country. He’s the best at it. Do you get what I mean? So, by asking for guidance from Doctor Ling, I’m able to operate on the patient even better. This is good for the patient, and recovery would definitely be even better than expected.”

The patient’s older sister looked at Doctor Qu in a daze. “The private hospital we went to said that you are one of the best orthopedics surgeons in our country. And… and… you’re working for the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center, aren’t you?”

“You’re right, but Doctor Ling is an even better orthopedics surgeon compared to me. Don’t you get it?” Doctor Qu was actually intentionally flattering Ling Ran with so many people around, even though Ling Ran himself was not in the room. Now that someone was playing along with him, he was flattering Ling Ran even more earnestly. “Let me make an inappropriate example. If I were a high school student, with my skills, I’ll probably get able to get into a key university without problems, but if I were lucky, I would get into one of the universities listed under Project 211. If I’m even luckier, I’ll get into one of the universities listed under Project 985. As for Doctor Ling, he’ll definitely be one of the top students in the country.”

The people around him could not help but gasp.

The patient’s older sister said in a daze, “Did I make a wrong choice?”

Doctor Qu said unhappily, “It’s not like you guys got into a losing deal with me being the surgeon, okay? Even if you were to disregard other things, when it comes to Achilles tendon repair alone, I’m better than most doctors. You have to know that the average student can only enter a third-tier university.”

“But before this…” The patient’s older sister did not know what else to say.

“You guys merely didn’t luck out, but it’s not like you got a bad deal.” Doctor Qu pursed his lips. He felt that he had flattered Ling Ran enough, and he did not bother saying anything else. He merely said, “Hurry up and accompany the patient back to the ward. When it comes to recovery, only 30% of it is dependent on the care the patient receives. 70% of it depends on the patient himself.”

After he finished talking, Doctor Qu turned and returned to the corridor of the operating theater. He then went to the operating theater where Ling Ran was working to make a report.
