Chapter 184 - Foresight

\'Are they suicidal?\' Shane asked himself in all seriousness, starting to wonder if they were naive or plain dumb.

[I\'m allowed to enter your shelters? Wouldn\'t it be too dangerous to let a stranger enter a shelter, without any reassurance?]

He was not a saint or anything like that but the Elus merchant\'s message made him suspicious about the Elus race\'s behavior.

\'Why are they acting like that? Is that some sort of plan or is that their normal behavior?\'

Allowing him to enter their shelter was already dangerous if he were to be an acquaintance, even more so due to the fact that they were only business partners right now!

He hadn\'t known the members of the race or the merchant beforehand.

Letting a business partner inside by saying "I allow you to enter my shelters where hundreds of thousand innocent citizens might live in" was unheard of.

As such, Shane wanted to understand what he was missing.

However, the Elus merchant\'s answer baffled him even further.

[There is nothing wrong with Sir entering our shelters. Otherwise, it would be extremely difficult to enter the Lesser Starlet Foxes territory! Furthermore, the permission you\'ll receive even allows Sir to enter our planets if Sir wants to visit us!]

\'They even allow me to enter their planets? Are they insane? Don\'t they know that miniature worlds, world seeds, and other similar objects like that exist? Aren\'t they aware that one can store living beings and smuggle them outside the shelter without getting detected by the permission certificate\'s restrictions?\'

Shane began to wonder how the Elus race had still not been eradicated, considering that their current behavior was so weird.

Even if it was not something he typically did, Shane started to explain to the Elus merchant by writing a long message that their race\'s behavior was callous and that they risked too much by being so trusting of others.

It was as if they weren\'t afraid of being eradicated by stronger races, which was weird.

There was also the possibility that the Elus race was scheming against him and trying to get their hands on him, but if he were, to be honest, there was nothing special about him!

The dangers their whole race had to face would be much higher than the gains they might receive by doing something to him.

After roughly half an hour, he received another message from the Elus merchant which allowed him to understand everything clearly as he mumbled in astonishment.

"That is possible?"

Based on the answer of the Elus merchant, Shane could tell that everything was much more complex than it previously seemed.

The Elus race was not naive or even stupid but sly and meticulous.

Apparently, the Elementals Empress had awoken an extremely useful Innate Skill called [Foresight]. It allowed her to not only see possible threats that might endanger their species but also see the degree of trust one could place upon a specific individual.

Shane also assumed that the said Elementals Empress was probably also able to take a peek in the future for a very short amount of time or do something similar. The Elus merchant hadn\'t provided any further details, and the reasons for doing so were pretty obvious.

It was not necessary to tell Shane everything and the information he received was already enough to figure out why the Elus-race seemed to trust him enough.

The Elementals Empress was probably requested to use her Innate Skill to tell how dangerous or trustworthy he was. From the looks of it, Shane was trustworthy enough to hand him a special permission certificate that would allow him to not only enter the Elus race\'s shelters but all planets they inhabit.

Maybe there was more behind their favorable behavior, but Shane couldn\'t figure out what exactly it might be.

There was only one thing he had to reassure himself which caused him to message the Elus merchant.

[Is it possible for me to receive a system pledge that the Elementals Empress\'s Innate Skill \'Foresight\' didn\'t label me as a threat to your race, causing her to give me this preferential treatment? It would make me feel secure. I don\'t like to be misled and I think it\'s obvious that entering another race\'s territory is always connected with possible dangers.]

Shane wanted to be sure that the Elus race wouldn\'t do anything to him if he were to enter their shelters or even planet.

As such, he acted meticulously instead of rushing forward without a plan which he wished to do earlier.

However, instead of an answer, he received two documents from the Elus merchant which Shane opened after a short moment of hesitation.

The first file he inspected was the special permission certificate making him an honorary guest of the Elus race for an …..unlimited amount of time?

Reading this, Shane was baffled for quite some time, because he had received a lifelong permission certificate, which was not what he had expected.

\'Is that a trick or did the Elementals Empress\'s foresight ability tell her that I\'m someone trustworthy?\'

He didn\'t even know if he could always trust himself and now an almost completely unknown race was acting as if he had known them for several centuries?

This was weird, but after he accessed the second document, which was a system pledge personally signed from the Elementals Empress, Shane\'s suspicion immediately dissipated.

Not only did the Elementals Empress pledge on her own life but she also added the clause that her entire race would be punished if she were to lie about the specific details the foresight ability told her about Shane.

These specific details were sent in a third document that came in a short while later.

To summarize the third document, he was seen as trustworthy and even labeled as important by the Elementals Empress\'s foresight ability.

That the Empress was willing to put her life on the line, if she were to be accused of lying, told Shane that the Elementals Empress understood his cautious behavior. At the same time, the pledge was evident proof that he could enter the Elus race\'s shelter and even planet, if necessary, without any worry.

Now that this issue was solved and that he had already obtained assurance for his safety from the Elementals Empress, Shane began to ask himself whether he should venture directly to the specific shelter where the Lesser Starlet Foxes\' habitat was or if he should wait.

However, before that, he signed the agreement he received only a short while after the third document was sent over by the Elus merchant.

As he carefully read through the agreement, he confirmed that it stated everything they had already discussed before which was faster than he had expected.

Signing it after he understood every term, Shane felt that it had been a wise move to ask the Elus merchant for help in exchange for the favor.

He would have never expected that the favor he thought to be a small one would turn into something so colossal that he would even become an honorary citizen of the Elus race.

Goosebumps erupted all over his skin at the thought and a childish smile emerged on his face.

\'Will I finally meet a foreign race, except forest-elves?\' Shane asked himself, wondering how exactly the Elus race would be like.

He already knew what they should look like, but there were always small details in the ways someone would look different than in the way they are described or the pictures.

Not every human looked the same and it applied to the other races as well.

Maybe there were races that looked identical but Shane doubted if there were a lot of them.

The Forest-Elven race that had once visited them, were not much different from the beautiful humans.

They had fair rosy skin, pointy ears and were innately talented in controlling mana and connected to nature which was a huge advantage.

Their height was the same as humans. and if he were to point out the biggest difference between humans and the forest-elven, Shane would probably say that every movement made by the elves was refined and elegant.

When an ambassador of the forest-elven had visited Igra, he had seemed disgusted with the manaless planet. Shane only recalled having seen him from far away, at one of the banquets he had attended when he had been young.

The young Shane had itched to take a closer look at the elf that had been less than a hundred meters away. However, his father had forbidden him from revealing himself in front of the elf. Shane could only sigh when he thought about that time.

However, this reminiscence couldn\'t suppress his joy to have finally obtained the opportunity to meet a different race and the fact that nobody was able to hinder him anymore!
