Chapter 44 - What's Your Name?
When Sunye emerged out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, she could smell the aroma of freshly baked bread, bacon and eggs. Her stomach churned at the scent and she realized how ravenous she was. Sunye was not a big eater and preferred light meals but at that moment, the smell was immensely alluring to her and she felt that she could probably clean out an entire five star hotel\'s buffet by herself.
She walked into the walk-in closet and searched at the spot where SD had claimed to have left clothes. There was a light pink flannel shirt with dark jeans and to her great embarrassment, a set of black lingerie. Thankfully, SD\'s ex did not wear tiny lingerie and it seemed like they would fit her. Trying not to think of SD\'s perverted smile while he had placed these out for her, she put on the clothes. Her hair was still damp and curly but she did not have a blowdryer there so she would have to dry them out naturally.
Sighing out loud, she exited the closet. She was still reeling from the events of last night and her body ached due to the long sleep. Being a light sleeper, the sudden doze of deep sleep had made her muscles stiff and she stretched her limbs to loosen up.
I can\'t believe I\'m in SD\'s house, she thought in dismay. SD\'s house…
Sunye was hit by a realization. For the past eight years, she had never visited SD\'s house. Every time they had met was either at a restaurant or some secret place he chose. It was the first time she was in his house and to her surprise it was...clean.
His bedroom was simple yet classy with minimal furniture. Two of the walls were made of glass, overlooking the entire city while the bright sunlight lit up the room. She could see the town\'s river from afar with buildings surrounding the area. Her eyes widened in awe at the breathtaking view. She never knew that the city could be so beautiful. It always felt like a fast paced yet cold place to live in but now that she was seeing it from the clouds, it felt like heaven.
The rest of the room was also kept simple. The walls were of a soft ombre color with matching carpet and couch. A king size bed lay in the middle which was unkempt since Sunye had slept on it last night. His bedside desk had a few books on top of it and a small vase of lilies lay right next to it. The flowers were fresh, emitting a pleasant smell. Sunye picked up one of the books.
"The Count of Monte Cristo," she read the title. She vaguely recalled the tale of the man who was falsely imprisoned for a crime he had not committed and in the process, lost his father and his fiance. Years later, the man escaped from prison and styled himself as the Count of Monte Cristo to exact revenge upon those who had wronged him.
"He actually reads!" she softly scoffed. SD never struck her as the reader type. He was more like the annoying type but at that moment, she realized how little she knew about the man. She looked around for some clue to his identity but to her surprise, his beautiful room was as mysterious as him. There were no pictures of his family and not even of himself.
Was he living away from them or did he not have a family?
For some reason, she felt uneasy at the thought. Even if he was annoying and dubious, she had at times trusted him with her vulnerable side. The fact that he had not revealed much about himself irritated her but she also felt guilty for not asking him.
Her stomach let out a loud rumble. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she forgot she was hungry!
I should go downstairs, she thought. Putting the book back where it was, she left the room.
SD was humming happily in the kitchen as he flipped the pancakes. He boasted widely about his culinary skills and even Orea could not help but take four helpings of whatever he cooked. Placing the pancakes on a couple of plates, he whipped some cream on to it and sprinkled fruit cuts on it. He placed the plates on the table, proud of the breakfast he made.
Sunye descended the stairs to find a full course meal awaiting her. SD had prepared cheese omelettes with toast, fruit salad, pancakes, hot sausages with chilli, chicken corn soup and mango juice. She gaped at all the food.
"You made all these in such a short time?" she asked in shock.
"Don\'t underestimate my cooking prowess!" SD boasted. "I\'m very proud of it. I\'m fully confident that I can take down the top chef of the country."
Sunye was not surprised by his pride in his skills. Then again, she lived on cheap ramen and coffee so she did not really know much about his cooking abilities.
She took a seat opposite him and picked up the cutlery to cut into her sausages. Tasting it, she was surprised by how soft and creamy they were. The eggs were also cooked to perfection with minimal salt, just like her preference. The food melted in her mouth and there was an unexpected delight rising in her heart.
"You look as if you\'re having an orgasm."
SD"s annoying words shattered her food fantasy into pieces. She glared at him.
"I can feed you naked if you want," he smirked in a seductive way.
"I\'ve tasted better stuff," she lied.
"Yes, the drool on your face is proof of that!"
Sunye gaped at him in horror and quickly wiped off her face before realizing that he was bluffing. SD burst into laughter as Sunye glared at him like an angry cat.
"You\'re such a…" she struggled to find the right words to curse him.
"Angelic being," he said, feeding words into her mouth. "I know that. But you should focus on the food for now."
Sunye grumbled and returned to her food. She gobbled a few more bites before her tiny stomach gave up and she was full. She glanced at SD, who was reading the newspaper as he bit into his food. He was now fully focused on the news, reading it with a quiet intensity.
She was slightly surprised by his serious demeanor. He was always fooling around with her, teasing her or flashing that irritating smile. Sunye had grown somewhat accustomed to him and his antics so she never thought that he could look so...good?
Then again, when SD was not talking, he was quite good looking. And seeing him reading that newspaper with such interest made him look even more alluring.
Stop it! She scolded herself. He\'s evil!
She toyed with the remaining food on her plate. They were sitting only inches apart and yet, he felt like a total stranger. How much do I know about him? She wondered. Do I even want to know about him?
"Spill it out," SD said in a flat tone, not taking his eyes off the paper. "I can tell you want to ask me something."
Sunye hesitated, gripping her fork tightly. She felt nervous as if she was going to give some kind of exam.
Don\'t be stupid! She told herself. Ask him.
"Ask away, Sunye," SD said in a singsong voice. Sunye took a deep breath.
"SD…" she began. "What\'s your name?"
