Chapter 53 - Covert Mission
Chapter 53 - Covert Mission
Perched on a branch right next to the large window, a tiny white bird sat inconspicuously and eavesdropped on the conversation between a master and his butler.
\'Sire asked me to get a report on the Tanners but I did not expect to get so much information without even trying hard enough.\' He rubbed his yellow beak on the bark of the tree in his excitement.
The information he had obtained was enough to report back to his master, Asmodeus but Theo had stayed back to satisfy his curiosity about what was happening here in the Tanner estate.
"Master, this is the third letter we have received so far." The old butler handed over a sealed letter to the man sitting behind the desk.
Duke Obinn Tanner accepted the letter and hesitantly tore open the seal.
His deep mahogany hair turned a bright coral color when the sun\'s rays fell on them.
After reading the contents of the letter, Duke Tanner stood up from his seat and paced around the room as his fingers grasped the letter almost crumpling it.
However, remembering the person who had sent it, he respectfully placed the letter on the desk and went back to pacing around the room.
The butler could only watch at the side as his master was trying to keep his sanity in check.
"When will they be back from the tea party?" Obinn inquired in a hasty voice and glanced at the elderly butler in search of answers.
"Any minute now, Master." The reply came fairly quickly considering the situation they were in right now.
Obinn nodded his head and then stood at the large window which overlooked the entrance of his estate.
Turning his head to the left, he found a cute little bird sitting on a tree branch as it stared at him.
Theo who had just made eye contact with the Duke almost wet himself but played it cool when he recalled the physical form that he was using right now.
\'I\'m just a bird resting on the tree, don\'t mind me.\' He chirped to prove his point.
Obinn\'s attention shifted from the pretty bird to the carriage which had just ended the estate.
Signaling to his butler, Obinn swiftly picked up his overcoat and strode out of his office.
Passing through many passages and climbing down a flight of stairs, he arrived at the main door of his house.
The butler opened the door for him and Obinn walked out and stood at the side as he watched the carriage door being pushed open from the inside.
The first head that popped out was his firstborn son, Topher followed by Damien and Taylor who emerged in quick succession.
Obinn smiled when a fair hand was extended from the inside.
Moving forward, he caught hold of the slim hand and gently tugged on it, making the person stumble forward and land straight in his arms.
Beatrice yelped when her entire body was yanked out of the carriage.
She had been expecting one of her sons to help her get down but now, in the arms of her loving husband, she blushed and hit his shoulders asking him to let her down.
Obinn would have loved to carry her inside but there was another matter that needed his urgent attention.
Even though he was unwilling, he was still obliged to follow his wife\'s orders.
"Here you go, love." He cautiously set her on the ground and kissed her on the lips before he turned towards the boys.
"Take your mother and get inside." He spoke to the boys and looked at the brown-haired boy who also turned around along with his sons.
"Not you, Mister. You and I need to have a little talk." Obinn caught hold of Damien\'s collar and dragged him away from there.
Damien tried to struggle out of the grown man\'s hold all the way until they reached a small black carriage that was stationed under the shade of a large tree at a distance.
"You sneaked out again and got caught." Obinn let go of his collar and shook his head in disapproval.
"What do you expect me to do? Stay indoors the entire time?" Damien rolled his eyes and huffed in anger.
Obinn felt sorry for this boy who was not given any proper freedom to live his life as he wished.
"Then don\'t get caught the next time!" Though he felt bad for him, Obinn did not like the little panic attacks that Damien gave everyone whenever he sneaked away.
Damien\'s jaw dropped when he heard the bad guidance that he received from this seemingly upright man.
"Don\'t look at me like that! I know that you will sneak out anyway so just make sure you don\'t cause problems for everyone." The Duke chastised him without holding back.
"You know how your brother gets when he doesn\'t see you, right?" He then pressed his temples while questioning the young boy.
\'It must have gotten chaotic for this man to call me out in this way.\' Damien nodded and then lowered his head.
"Now get back home and stay there until you can calm your brother down." Obinn rubbed the boy\'s brown hair and then gestured to the carriage that awaited him.
Damien glanced at his friend who still stood at the entrance of the house and then at the man standing before him.
Not having any way out, he could just accept his defeat and go back to his home for now.
Topher watched as his friend climbed into the carriage which soon left their estate and disappeared.
"Stop encouraging him whenever he makes such reckless plans." Obinn chided his son when he reached his place.
Topher rolled his eyes at his father\'s back and walked behind him as they both entered their home.
"He\'s isn\'t a bird that needs to be caged all the time. Let him live a little." He muttered under his breath to which he was rewarded with a fierce glare from his father.
"5000 push-ups by the end of the day." Giving out his orders, Obinn did not bother about his sulking son and walked away.
\'I will pay you back for this!\' Topher cursed his friend who had caused his suffering because of his whim to sneak out of his house.
Theo watched from a discreet corner and blushed when his covert mission had taken a strange and unexpected twist.
Turning his head away from the window where the Duke and Duchess were all over each other, Theo decided that his mission here was as good as over.
\'This innocent bird does not require to sully his eyes witnessing this!\' He hurriedly flapped his winged and flew away from the window through which lewd moans were beginning to escape.
