Chapter 17
All these experiences kept making Damon’s mind numb to emotions. He was scared this may get worse but after thinking about it briefly he guessed this is for the best. The less emotional and logical he becomes the easier life becomes.
Anyway, he got to see the lives of the death magic users and he pretty much understood what his magic is capable of. Strangely, almost every user of this magic specialized in one or more aspects of the dark arts or more, for some reason they all avoided the true power of the death magic.
“Were they terrified of it or what?” Damon muttered.
At this point, his blurry vision slowly began clearing and he saw himself in an Inn house they slept in the previous day. He could guess he passed out so Daniel Ross brought him here.
He could remember Daniel Ross’s expression and his attempts to save him when he fought Luthor Wright and he couldn’t confess that this man wasn’t too bad.
Even though he wasn’t an actual parent, the man was dedicated to playing that role to the best of his abilities.
.....
The candle was lit up and at the corner of the bed was Daniel Ross. He was sleeping while on the sit. Damon guessed he was awake all through watching over him.
“This man is not too bad” Damon muttered. This can be considered one of the few people he likes.
He didn’t bother with the man though, he walked into the bathroom and shut the door.
He planned on using his death magic for the first time.
Just like he noticed before all other death mages avoided the true power of death and focused on mastering all forms of dark magic. Since they didn’t need any preparation time or so, they were overpowered. But Damon believed these people never reached their full potential.
Even without using the death magic, he could understand why. The feeling the magic gave him was truly terrifying but Damon didn’t care.
In reality, the true power of death is not that special or different from the other dark magic but it has a unique feature none has.
The decay power!
There was also the bone power, the hell flames, and more that he couldn’t explain.
The ability to reduce anything to dust!
Damon pushed his hands forward and a darkish green magic circle appeared beneath him at the center of the magic circle, where Damon stood was a terrifying eyeball gazing at him strangely. His eyes remained closed as he visualized one of the spells he saw in that image.
It was a man in complete battle armor made of bone. In fact, every user of the death magic uses it as their primary defensive ability.
Slowly numerous symbols began appearing on the death magic array but as they did an abundance of diabolical power kept leaking out which made Damon frown.
He quickly canceled the spell when he felt confident he could complete it. If he lets the diabolical power spread everyone in this hotel would be alerted and put on guard. They may even end up tracing the power all the way to him. Which would make things troublesome.
He returned to the main room to find Daniel on the bed already, snoring away. Damon smiled and lay beside him, dozing off not too long after.
........
The next day, Damon returned to the magic Academy. The incident had caused him to miss the entrance speech of the magic Academy for freshers like him but it didn’t matter much to him. He only felt frustrated that he missed some important information.
Just like he expected the distinguished students were labeled as Chosen and the Chosen had a different and more luxurious dormitory than other students. They were like celebrities in the academy.
Alex quickly found his room after he was given the right directions. Apparently, magic in this world was quite advanced and allowed for some sort of recognition system which only opens to those wielding a certain card.
Using his card, Damon slipped it into what looked like a card hole and an unlocking sound could be heard before he walked in.
He locked the door behind him and failed to notice the extremely spacious room. He already had a warm meal and some milk on his desk waiting.
Unlike others who had to go to the cafeteria, their meals are brought to them. Also, They didn’t have to share rooms like the others and their rooms were quite far apart and soundproof, giving them the highest LL level of privacy.
“Can you suppress the aura leaking from my death magic?” Damon asked.
He didn’t dare use the magic with such a terrifying aura. He was sure it would be detected if used here.
“You have the memory of the previous users of the previous death mages... you have their power, why try to use it when it’s risky?” Death asked.
“It’s not about that. How am I supposed to form my fighting style if I can’t test the spells and figure out what’s best suitable for me?” Damon asked as he opened the wardrobe to see sleeveless black robes just like the one he had on but of higher quality.
These ones had the mage academy badges.
“I can’t help you with this. There is a limit to how much we guardian spirits can do in this mortal world... I have hidden the presence of your death magic already, that’s a lot. Doing more than this will lead to complications” Death said emotionless.
“It’s okay... I guess I will need to find an opportunity later” Damon shrugged his shoulder.
He actually expected this reply but hoped for something different. It didn’t matter much, he would have to find an opportunity to practice in the future.
