Chapter 67
Damon frowned at this while he struggled to stand on his feet. His skin was terribly pale, his mouth covered with blood. His eyes revealed pain and struggle but he didn’t make a sound.
It felt like a mountain was dropped atop him crumbling his knees and other defense. His werewolf genes were rapidly healing his body but his injuries were so bad he could barely feel the recovery effects.
“Is he standing? He’s not half bad” some nobles couldn’t help but say as they watched Damon rise to his feet.
His reddened eyes faced in the direction of the son of heaven but he couldn’t see him for some reason that part of the royal courtroom was dark but he could feel a powerful pair of eyes pinned on him. If the royal guard he met outside made him feel uncomfortable then the man seated above made him feel helpless. He felt completely naked, nothing could be hidden from the man!
“You are Damon Ross?” The voice shook the entire hall and with great effort, Damon bowed with his fists cupped.
“I am” Damon said with a strained voice.
Under the strong pressure, Damon remained calm and even the arch mage was left momentarily stunned.
Over the years numerous humans have come out to meet the Son of heaven and most of them end up shitting themselves during the meeting.
.....
If Damon was to explain the aura of this man ruling this kingdom for centuries now it would be that of a powerful prehistoric beast, ready to pounce at any moment!
Terrifying!
“Not bad... I was told you were talented so I had to see you for myself... The fate of this kingdom lies in your hands. The identity of a lone wolf is far more complicated than you think... I hope you understand what I mean?” the son of heaven said calmly and Damon could only listen in silence.
His injuries have healed considerably so he wasn’t as pale as before.
“Dealing with the blood clan is your destiny, serving the kingdom is your duty. Do you understand?” The son of heaven asked with a stern look on his face.
“I do!” Damon responded sternly without fear.
“Hahahaha! That’s nice, that’s nice. From today you will cooperate with the Hail’s.you will learn from them and you will grow with them. You may leave!” The vicious thundered and before Damon could respond he vanished!
Bam!
Damon reappeared outside the gates of the royal palace where he was dropped by the royal carriage. Damon fell to his knees and spat out a mouthful of blood with a trembling body!
“Damn it!” Damon muttered as he clutched his belly and dragged his body into the carriage.
Getting sent in and out like that made him realize how insignificant he is to these people. Their carelessness inflicted him with immense internal injuries and yet after the meeting, they just threw him out like he is nothing. They didn’t even let him introduce himself properly!
In the eyes of these people, he was no different from trash!
“Next time I return to this place, these people will look at me differently. I swear it!” Damon swore inwardly!
..............
Traveling from the royal palace to the Hail family territory was quite peaceful and time consuming. Just what Damon needs! He got the time to rest, sleep and recover pretty well.
After what seemed like hours the carriage finally stopped, looking out the window, Damon could tell it was already night time. The sun was gone and the moon stood boldly in the skies, illuminating the night with the moonlight.
Thud!
“This is probably the longest and most unpleasant day of my life” Damon muttered as he stepped out of the carriage and pulled out his luggage.
The home of the Hail family was just a massive castle on a large piece of land which should be enough to build a small village. The entire location. Was quiet with no guards. The gates were open and Damon dragged his luggage along as he walked for minutes before he could reach the castle!
Even as a werewolf he felt a bit stressed after dragging his Luggage and walking for more than twenty minutes before reaching the castle.
Upon arrival, he realized the doors were open and he didn’t hesitate to walk in. The kind of life where a Duke has no security and leaves his doors open is simply a sign that this man was no different from a beast! His confidence would instill fear in the hearts of his enemies.
Damon walked through the door which quickly brought him to a massive hall and a massive table where the Hail’s were currently having dinner. His arrival drew the attention of everyone but only for a short moment!
At the very end of the long dining table was Duke Hail and by his side were younger members of the Hail family eating silently.
It was said that the previous generation of the Hail family was wiped out during their battle against the blood clan originals, it was a fierce battle and their death pushed the responsibility to the younger generation almost instantly.
It was extremely difficult for these people to deal with so much responsibility at an early age but they managed to find their way around it all.
“You are here. That’s nice, come join us for dinner. I will have someone move your bag to your room” Duke Hail said cheerfully. He always seemed happy whenever he met Damon but the rest of his family couldn’t say the same.
There were just five of them, three boys and two girls. They all glanced in his direction, seeing his blood-stained mouth they frowned.
“I’m guessing you met his majesty today. The fact you are here means you didn’t faint under pressure. That’s a good sign” Duke Hail said calmly.
Only after hearing this did the cold look on the faces of these people loosen up a bit. They were still hostile towards Damon but they carried a hint of respect in their eyes as well.
“I was left with injuries that required some time to heal. I feel completely drained” Damon said honestly as he took a seat at the other edge of the dining table and frowned.
His eyes seemed to briefly scan the faces of everyone in the room before he picked up a large piece of steak and moved it to his plate.
“I heard you didn’t want to join us?” A stern cold voice erupted from the side.
Looking at the man who had the voice, it was a man in his late thirties or early forties. He seemed older than Duke Hail but he wasn’t the alpha of this pack so Damon had no intentions of shying away.
“I work better alone” Damon gave a dry answer before throwing a piece of steak into his mouth.
His icy gaze and indifference made the people on the table more agitated, only Duke Hail wasn’t moved.
“I planned to go to the war front and broaden my experience but I was dragged all the way here without a chance to resist. I’m guessing you are responsible?” Damon said while eating. For some reason he didn’t look at the Duke while he spoke, he just kept eating but the tension in the room had already risen.
“IMPUDENT! You dare speak to the Duke like that?” A lady about his age raged abruptly and stood up with fierce eyes.
Damon shot her a deep glance and guessed she was new here. She must have been his replacement after he became a lone wolf. The Duke still needed to complete his pack so as to reap full benefits.
“I want an explanation and I will get one” Damon said coldly while he gazed into the lady’s eyes.
A hint of killing intentions surged from his body, directed towards the recruit! Upon feeling it she yelped in surprise and quickly retreated!
“I couldn’t let you go to such a dangerous place. Right now your main focus should be hunting down supernatural beings and improving your strength as a lone wolf. The blood clan is not as simple as you think, you have a duty...”
“But I also have a life” Damon cut the Duke off with a stern look on his face.
“I have a life as a mage and a person. I wasn’t informed before this was given to me. I am grateful for your help and all that since you saved my life. But this is not what I want. Just like every one of you who dreams of finally bringing down the blood clan, I also have goals and things I need to achieve... I will help you all defeat the blood clan originals but I will never be one of you” Damon said coldly before getting up and walking out.
Everyone watched in silence as he climbed the stairs and disappeared into the distance. His words were like a blade stabbing into the hearts of all those who heard him.
